Didn't want to install extra plasmoids, so did the following: * open .kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc * Find the section which reads "[Containments][12][ToolBox]" (12 might be a diff number in your case) * change the value for "offset" to a large negative number e.g. -200 Basically the Desktop Toolbox is still there, but exists in a real outside my screen. Most importantly, the setting persists across logins.
