[opensuse-kde] What can I do with new package kdeapi4?
Hi, api.kde.org is still down which has prompted me to package the kdelibs4 api in home:plater kdeapi4. With kde3 the api was readily available in a package but I was surprised to find that was not so for kde4 so until I tried to package it. Anyway it's packaged as kdeapi4 and kdeapi4-man for the man pages, I'm still fine tuning the package which takes a couple of hours to build. I was thinking that I could submit it to factory desktop and unstable linked to kdelibs4 to ensure that always reflects the latest kdelibs4. kdeapi4-4.4.3-276.1.noarch.rpm 316802K Ugh. I think this is insanely huge for Factory, especially given the quite low demand for the package (at least as long as api.kde.org is accessible). I think it would be ok for KDE:Extra (i.e. Community for now) though. -- Lubos Lunak openSUSE Boosters team, KDE developer l.lunak@suse.cz , l.lunak@kde.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

api.kde.org is still not accessible, I'm playing with a qch package atm. The man package is only 5.2M and the html one is now 309M I'll see how much I can shave off if I exclude the search engine or see if I can package that separately. The package is still wip, at least I have a bit more direction now and access to the kde4 api. I know, but my point is that IIRC this has never happened before, not for more than a few days, so it's rather unlikely to happen again in this extent. So unless you make the package let's say only 30M big, I think it's not worth it having it in Factory. And the target audience should have enough expertise to fetch it from :Extra if needed. -- Lubos Lunak openSUSE Boosters team, KDE developer l.lunak@suse.cz , l.lunak@kde.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

This will result in only one API version beeing documented (4.4.3 for example, depends on the source), so maybe do seperate packages for every main version? Karsten -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

You think that one 300M package is not enough :) ? Kdelibs API is backwards compatible (with rare exceptions), and new additions are marked with the version when they appeared, so the newest version should be sufficient. -- Lubos Lunak openSUSE Boosters team, KDE developer l.lunak@suse.cz , l.lunak@kde.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

BTW for anyone who is wondering: Adriaan de Groot [ade] is the one who admins the hardware for api.kde.org and the English Breakfast Network kde-quality checker. And he's been having loads of issues with the server hardware recently, so if anyone could step up and help him (with hardware / or expertise) I'm sure it would be appreciated. http://blogs.fsfe.org/adridg/ I think most crucially he needs some new storage hardware.
