[opensuse-kde] Is compiz needed for kde?
Hi, I just discovered today, that a updated compiz package is provided today via the KDE:Factory repository. Is compiz needed for kde? I thought that kwin provides everything we need ;) # zypper rm compiz Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Resolving package dependencies... The following packages are going to be REMOVED: compiz compiz-branding-openSUSE compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-kde compiz-manager compizconfig-settings-manager libcompizconfig python- compizconfig simple-ccsm-kde Would it hurt my installation to remove all the above listed packages? I don't remove compiz, I use kwin and many of the effects that kwin provides nowadays. -- Richard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Well... In my case, with KDE4.2 from factory and even UNSTABLE on opensuse11.1, it works pretty well without compiz. I do not know which dependency brings it in, but anyways zypper lets remove it without complaining. Thanks to all who replied. I'm removing compiz now with all its dependencies. I'll let you know if this breaks anything. -- Richard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Nope. Go ahead and remove it. Not sure why it's there in the first place. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

To have no dependency conflict for people updating KDE from default 11.1 installation where compiz is installed by default. Bye, Steve -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Shoud be fine to remove all that, I did and haven't noticed anything being broken because of that. The package compiz-kde is the kde window decorator for compiz and thus something that's need by compiz and not by kde. You're right in thinkink that kwin provides for all your window managerial needs... ;-) Vesa -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
