Thanks for your mail. I also notticed the problem with de qt3 library but unfortunately I replaced all the KDE packages with the new ones (in this case a bad habit). I think I will also upgrade to 8.1, even that I'm a little bit scared about doing an update to 8.1 after reading all those bad reviews from the net. Do you had problems upgrading from 8.0 to 8.1?
I upgraded yesterday, and it was the best install I've seen so far: - - Firewire board and cdburner detected at install time - - TV card, sound card with MIDI capacities, parallel port printer, USBV scanner, network card, serial modem, DVD and Zip drives configured correctly automatically - - graphics card configured correctly with 3D and dual-head - - the new Sax2 did not detect my graphic tablet (it does not look for it) but has an option to write the correct configuration for it in XF86Config so you only have to specify the device - - Grub by default (no more "Oops, I forgot to type lilo before reboot") - - CUPS by default (it is stable now) - - KDE 3.0.3 is very good, an official update for 3.0.4 is available - - Windows partition detected for boot menu and access in Linux All that in 45 minutes (counting some time in YaST2 selecting packages individually). In fact, only my joystick was not automatically found (USB model)! And my mouse wheel has not configured, but I think it is available in Sax2, I just forgot it (the usual "ZAxisMapping" option). I also regret that a few packages have disappeared. So far I have noticed this for JBuilder, INes and Kylix. And, as in 7.3 and 8.0, no french packages for manpages, howtos, Openoffice and Mozilla. GCC 3.2 seems to suit KDE very well. KDE was quite fast for me before (at least since 3.0.1 when they used the new malloc) and it is even better now. The only I don't like, but it is personal, is that they split the KDE packages. kdebase3 is now split in 9 packages (kdebase3, SuSE, devel, devel-doc, extra, kdm, konqueror, ksysguardd, nsplugin, samba). Same for kdenetwork3, kdesdk3, kdegames3, etc. I understand it is good if you want to install only what you really need (less space, etc) but it is a hell if you just want a complete KDE install... Well, personal opinion, as I said. - -- Thibaut Cousin email : cousin@in2p3.fr web : http://clrwww.in2p3.fr -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE9tW9Kv1vqsTa1E4oRAqBTAJwMjCeIpD0axYw8XSnfnPAoNhWLiwCfQUlB T0Gatk8VhMl0jDqWtMqQuGE= =IJXS -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
