Hello! I'm using SuSE 9.0 with KDE 3.1.4. I had installed some MS TrueType Fonts in the KDE Contol Center, but as a result of this istallation I loose a large number of originally istalled fonts (although I hadn't removed them). I need both of these font types. What is the solution for this problem? Best regards from, Bela

I found the font installer in the Control Center more of a problem than a solution. It's a PAITA. The way I handled this was to install, as root, the msfonts and msfonts-style RPMs which come from avi/alkalay.net/software/msfonts/ (I can't remember the rest of the URL but this will get you almost there) and then copy the actual fonts in both the directories created during the installation (/usr/share/fonts/ )into the directory where the truetype fonts are (installed during the installation of Suse); this directory is /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype. When you copy the ttf files some will be dupes but will also be more recent that the ones installed by Suse so replace the latter (the Suse ones). After you have copied them run from the command line: SuSEconfig -module fonts . Once this is done then uninstall the 2 msfonts RPMs (because all you needed where the ttf files in them). But before doing the above I suspect that you will have to somehow get back the original fonts installed by Suse. Do you by any chance have another Suse installation from which you can copy the (original) fonts? But keep in mind that you don't use all the fonts available anyway so you may get away with what is in the msfonts RPMs (although I suspect that they may not be enough for Open Office -- don't know). Cheers. -- Wagner's music is really not as bad as it sounds.
Thanks, Basil, for the detailed guidance. It's running smoothly! :-))) Best regards... and a nice weekend... -Bela- Basil Chupin <blchupin@tpg.com.au> irta:
