Hi guys, Since a few days, kmail is always starting at logon, while i'm 100% sure i've closed all applications before logoff. Also i don't use kmail as standalone, i'm using Kontakt... Does somebody know what's happening here ? Thanks in advance, Franky. -- _________________________________________________________ GOETHALS Franky Driegaaienstraat 104 B-9100 SINT-NIKLAAS B E L G I E Verantwoordelijke MVS Support voor Euroclear Bank Secretaris GSE Z/OS Systems Working Group Privaat doeleinden & GSE Workgroup : Tel. : 32 - (0)3 / 776.65.17 GSM : 32 - (0)473 / 98.90.24 Mail & MSN : franky.goethals@telenet.be http://gsezos.dyns.cx Professionele doeleinden : Tel. Are you sure you're _quitting_ KMail? Or are you just closing its window? You'll note that since (I think) KMail version 1.7, closing the KMail main window does _not_ cause KMail to quit. You can verify this if you have the system tray icon enabled by noticing that the KMail tray icon remains present when you close the KMail main window. The window can be brought back by clicking the tray icon in that case. On the other hand, if you actually quit KMail (File -> Quit), then the tray icon will disappear and you'll have to launch KMail anew to use it.
Thanks in advance, Franky.

I just ran a little experiment and confirmed the behavior I hypothesized: 1) Close all KMail windows 1a) KMail tray icon still present 2) Log out 3) Log in 3a) KMail window reappears. Perhaps I should say that I _am_ using KDE as my desktop environment.
Thanks in advance, Franky.

Exit KMail via the menu, not the window decorations. This will really end the process, and it should not appear on startup. Mario
Hi Guys, I've tried this the proper way, exiting via File => Quit, no tray-icon neither anymore then, but after logoff, logon => kmail is there again. What i do find strange is that i'm using Kontakt, not Kmail native, so why doesn't he start Kontact then ? Greets, Franky. On Tuesday 28 December 2004 22:06, Mario Streiber wrote:

In your home directory you will find the hidden folder .kde and inside there, the Autostart folder. Could in there possibly be an entry which causes KMail to start up with every KDE logon? Regards, -- Andreas Philipp Noema Ltda. Bogotá, D.C. - Colombia

Duh. That's exactly what I said.

You have the 'Session Manager' set to 'restore previous session' or to 'restore manually saved session'. If the first, close aps you wish not to restart before shutting down. If the second, either set it to 'start with an empty session' or shut down *all* apps and store the session. OR, set the 'Session Manager' to 'start with an empty session'. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

I don't have this problem, but exactly this question was asked at the kdepim-users AT kde.org mailing list a few days ago. The answer was that the KMail user probably uses a calendar or addressbook configured to use IMAP and this causes KMail to get started and this behaviour can't unfortunately be changed. So if you use IMAP this may be the reason. HTH Malte
Hi Malte, That's indeed the case, i'm running my own IMAP-server. This explains a lot, because this is indeed the case since i've changed to imap, as i recall now :-) In meantime i've subscribed to this mailinglist, as they still need to change quite some things to get professional. Perhaps i can contribute some way or the other. Thank you very much ! Kind regards & Happy New Year ! Franky. On Wednesday 29 December 2004 17:58, you wrote:
