Hi guys -- I was wondering if anyone has a tip on how I can link a known file extension to an application beforehand? BACKGROUND: I noticed that the MIME types and file extensions to Open Office were missing (plus the icons for OOo look like crap but thats beside the point) Now its a pain in the buttt o have to do this manually for many machines so Im trying to do this my dropping in "fixes" Step One: * Registering the MIME types, icon and file extensions Was the easy part, just drop in correct "xx.desktop" files in /opt/kde3/ share/mimelnk/application/ Step Two: * This is my problem: how do I link Open Office so it lauches automatically on these pre-made MIMEs/filextension files? Manully linking by having KDE ask me what app to launch (and from now on rememeber) is not what I'm looking for. Rather a way to pre-register known xxx file extension <--> to execute: usr/ X11R6/bin/OOo Any ideas? jk -- Suse Linux 9.0 | 2.4.21-121-smp4G | KDE 3.1.4 | XFree86 v4.3.0.1

From konqueror you can configure the file assocations from the "Settings" menu --> Configure Konqueror --> File Associations --> Applications THis is still a bit of a pain. I do not know of any way of doing it from a script or editing the MIMES directly. If anyone knows please post an answer. -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------

FWIW: If anyone find them useful, below is the fist part, MIME-types and file extensions for pre-registering, (plus a subdirectory with decent icons.) Now all that is missing is the darn solution to link these extensions to the OOo executable in one shot. Theres is readme for both the MIME part and decent icons. http://www.bostreammail.com/kalev/OOo_mimetypes.zip jk -- Suse Linux 9.0 | 2.4.21-121-smp4G | KDE 3.1.4 | XFree86 v4.3.0.1

Hi, I use SuSE 9.0 with KDE 3.1.4 Since this version I cannot manipulate the entries in the K-Menue anymore. Under 8.2 I saw all entries made by other applications like Point2Play or Wine in the Menue after I switched to the "Seperate SusE-Menue" in the Controlcentre. I do not find this option anymore. May anyone has any solution for this? Regards Rafael -- www.pinguin-and-knights.org 2003 by Lontro
