[opensuse-kde] KDF 4.7.1 packages ̣- black screen
Hey everybody! I hope it's a local issue but in case it's not, a warning to those who consider updating to the packages from KDF. I just did and got a black screen after re-login. The apps are all started and accessible but not displayed. I did chose the KDE plasma-workspace session. I moved .kde4 and I tried logging in as another user. All with the same result. The kdebase4 etc. packages are all 4.7.1. I hope the next rebuild solves, just be careful before updating. :) Sven -- Empfehlen Sie GMX DSL Ihren Freunden und Bekannten und wir belohnen Sie mit bis zu 50,- Euro! https://freundschaftswerbung.gmx.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

i updated a few hours ago, and everything is fine; no black screens or the like. after "zypper up" came up with it's list of packages to update and i started downloading, the process got stuck because one package couldn't be found on the repo (marble or marble-data, i think). running "zypper up" again solved the problem. this seems to indicate that the repo wasn't fully updated when i first tried. most likelely (and hopefully) that's the reason for your problems, too. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I updated last night and again today and everything works fine I did notice though that there were a number of 32bit packages with higher build numbers than the 64bit packages. Did you perhaps do a "zypper dup"? Qt 4.7.4 in itself is allright. I found on a mirror an earlier build of the KDE:Qt repo with latest changelog entry for libqt4: ------------------------------------------------------------------- Tue Sep 6 02:04:57 UTC 2011 - crrodriguez@opensuse.org - Respect user provided openssl.cnf,so configured engines can be used automatically, requires no source changes, but build with -DOPENSSL_LOAD_CONF see OPENSSL_config(3ssl) for details After installing this, desktop effects is working fine. My (uneducated) guess would be that the patch plastik-default.diff is causing the bug. Hi Sven, `715322' (Icons in Virtual Desktops do not refresh in real-time) is specific to `openSUSE' as I tested with the upstream repository. I'll test `715316' (X uses high CPU ...) is upstream or not. I should have thought of that when I filed the bug. :o Cheers, --- Pablo Sanchez - Blueoak Database Engineering, Inc Ph: 819.459.1926 Fax: 760.860.5225 (US) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Replying to myself ... this appears to be an upstream bug. I'll file a KDE ticket and note it in the openSUSE ticket. I haven't seen any comments on `715322' ... it'd be nice to get some input. :)

For completion, it turns out I didn't gather the proper forensics for the above bug. It seems to be related to when anti-aliasing is disabled. If it's disabled, it appears the CPU spikes. Very interesting. I'll have to dig in more after dinner. ... or after breakfast ... :) I closed the other ticket as I didn't think it was quite correct and opened a new `openSUSE' ticket and added a reference to the KDE ticket: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=717539 Cheers, --- Pablo Sanchez - Blueoak Database Engineering, Inc Ph: 819.459.1926 Fax: 760.860.5225 (US) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Since it happens with KD47 as well: I am very disappointed this happens to a repo that is meant to be stable :-P BTW: 4.7.1 has been tested. No complaints. Was was changed between the last test version and the version that is filling the repos now? This seems to be a Qt issue. I just updated to Qt 4.8.0 and the issue is gone! But with this Qt version KDE looks very different, I use QtCurve style. Qtcurve just ist ugly with the new Qt version. You need to add the qt repo 4.8 to update Qt. Malte -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Within limits. Factory is meant as openSUSE Next. This late in the development cycle (beta now, remember) such a failure is decidedly NOT funny. Malte and the other are fully right in their gripping. A idea for the future: Disable publishing on the repo until the build is failure-less done and ALL the packages have the right versions. Upon publishing this full build there will be still errors, for sure, but there should not be any missing dependencies, build failures and fully missing packages left. Just the code / patch errors. Doing a upgrade (version jump) this way should reduce the possible negative impact. Please think about, and discuss. +1 especially in the KR47 is long overdue. Often it is so that packets for faster access in KR47. In KDF but should first be tested before the packets (update) are moved to KR47 and distributed. This would save a lot of trouble. In any case also has an info on the list would be good if the package building is complete. Would thus prevent users can destroy the system because it is noted that not all packages have not yet been completed. What I do not understand is that the packages can be installed with a simple "zypper up", without any dependency problem. If there is really Qt 4.8 missing, why was it possible to install the packages at all? With a "zypper dup" I can cause severe damage to a system, but "zypper up" always cared for dependencies. What happened? And where? To the packages? To the build system? I am quite confused, even after several years with S.u.S.E./SuSE/SUSE/openSUSE (since 5.3). as far as i understand, the problem was in libqt4 and it's dependencies. that's included in the normal KDE repo (KDF & R47) and naturally can be updated with "zypper up" -- there's no change of provider. it's been fixed now, and sooner or later the fixed version will be in all mirrors. of course it's not nice to have this happen in supposedly stable repos (R47), but when was the last time you made a mistake? i don't have to think very far back, unfortunately... -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

it's not that Qt 4.8 is missing, but it contains libqt4 packages without the error; that's why it solved the problem for some. when i tried to switch to packages from Qt4.8, i had a gazillion dependency issues that would have required to uninstall or downgrade half of KDE. again, as far as i know (which isn't very far), you don't need additional Qt repos unless you're developing. the KDE repos are compiled against them and include all that's needed. you probably missed a message in this list, where ismail doenmez wrote: ----------- Hi everyone affected please try libqt4 packages from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/namtrac:/branches:/KDE:/Qt/o... ----------- this solves the black screen, and the faulty libqt4 packages have already been fixed, apparently. shouldn't take too long for them to appear in the mirrors. no additional repos won't be necessary then. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

That's what I knew and guessed it would still be this way. Obviously, it was not when the 4.7.1 packages startet to drop in the repos.

Yes, I read it right now. In the meantime, I had to clean a bit in the backup medium of my SAP servers, so please pardon me not to read any mail on this list, even when I may be concerned. Regarding Ismaels post, it will be safe to "upgrade back" on monday, I think. I will ask my colleage to go first, however ;-) BTW, going back to 4.6.5 allows me to use the "fortunes" plasmoid again, and it's looking better than the one I used before (blackboard, chalk, sponge instead of "invisible background"). I didn't miss it, but if I use it I get a dependency error: libqca2-2.0.3-25.1.i586 requires = libqt4 = 4.7.4 but this requirement cannot be provided. oh, that one i got even before adding any repos. i think i've seen it mentioned on this list (or was it the forums?). genereally when repos upgrade i'm seeing similar things a lot; either my mirror isn't fully ready, or there's some last-minute changes in the repos. usually it goes away after a short while. if it doesn't, i look through the bug reports. in this case i chose "dont' install...," i think 4 packages altogether. means they aren't being upgraded, but the old versions remain. they're all related to CD management in KDE, i think. since i don't have CD reader or writer, this doesn't bother me. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

as i expeted, this dependency issue has disappeared for me. still have the additional repo for solving the black screen issue enabled; not sure if it's related to that, but the issue is gone. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
