Fwd: Re: [suse-kde] Sound, alsactl, boot.local issue since kde 3.3
weird, I had this problem *before* I upgraded to kde3.3 Try kmix instead of kamix. That seems to have solved it for me.
That worked a treat. Thanks. But can you control/mute the volume from the system tray icon? I can't seem to do it. The slider moves but no change, the button pressed crosses out the icon but volume is unchanged. regards Ian

I do not get the same volume control slider which I got with kamix. When I click on it then the full mixer window opens, and i can modify the volume using the master slider on the left. There are some kde-multimedia rpms now on SuSEs ftp, which have not been there before the 24th of August (when I upgraded first.) If you do not have them yet, get them and see if kmix behaves better after installing them. HTH, Matt

I've got a 5 speaker system and Kmix only seems to operate the rear speakers but KMIX did allow my sound to be running once i rebooted. I went to the command line and ran "alsamixer" and played with those settings as they seem to work all the channels properly which is what KAmix seemed to do. I've also just discovered new KDE stuff on the FTP site so I'm downloading as i write. Maybe that will restore normality Thanks again for your help Ian
