Recently i took a look at tumbleweed and milestone 42.1. I discovered that all virtual desktops are always identical.
If change a wallpaper on one of the desktops all desktops change to the chosen wallpaper. Where is the setting to have different wallpapers on each desktop ?
If i set the desktop to folderview and change "desktopsettings-location-specify a folder" the desktopfolder, it is always the same for all desktops. So also the icons and widgets are for all desktops identical.
Is this a known omission or is it still in the pipeline ?
I've just discovered that the functionality of virtual-desktops is also in activities and available in tumbleweed and milestone42. I can give each activity a different wallpaper, switch each activity to folderview and give each activite its own desktop directory. Now all desktops (read activities) can be complete different. The only difference i can find is virtualdesktops have a pager available and activities have not. If we can get a pager for activities, i think we don't need virtualdesktops anymore. There is/was an Activity Switcher plasmoid that can be dragged onto a panel, at least in KDE4. And there was a wheeled variation which allowed switching merely by mouse-wheeling over the icon, rather than selecting an activity from its fly-out menu. I'm not sure however you can fully replicate the functionality of virtual desktops with activities. That was never the intention, and is the reason both still exist. They are different concepts to serve different needs. gumb -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
