[opensuse-kde] Nepomuk problems in KDE 4.1.1
Hi, I'm using KDE 4.1.1 from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSU... I'm trying to use Nepomuk, and this is what I get... I enable 'Enable Nepomuk Semantic Desktop' from the system settings. Nepomuk starts and I can add tags to files in Dolphin. After a while (a few minutes), my old tags are gone, and when I try to add a new tag to a file, the list of available tags has changed from PACS and Documents to file:///Documents and nepomuk:/FMe7c7zZZPQSgpePfUr9 At the same time, I can see that strigidaemon is running (even when I did not select to run strigi in the system settings). After a while, I can see that both dbus-daemon (30.2%) and nepomukservicestub nepomukstorage (38%) are taking a lot of my memory (I have 2 gigabytes of RAM and a 64 bit intel machine). I've installed the sesame backend for soprano, and not the redland backend. Is this a know KDE 4.1.1 bug, is this an opensuse problem or did I do something wrong? Before I did this tests, I removed my ~/.strigi directory and the ~/.kde4/share/apps/nepomuk directory. I tried the same, as a result nepomuk crashed at every logout (until I installed the redland backend too). Further, if you run sopranocmd --help you will see that it finds the sesame2 backend but cannot use it because some file is missing (which actually is not). I think you're talking about something else, which is an annoying zypp resolver bug. the problem is that the backend packages are not upgraded to the same version than the main package, even though dependencies would recommend it to do so. make sure that the installed backend has the same version and release number like the main package of soprano. the sesame2 backend issue should already be fixed (at least the one I know about). make sure you have the latest version installed and check "ldd /usr/lib64/soprano/libsoprano_sesame2backend.so | grep found" Greetings, Dirk --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I always update all packages that have a more recent version available, but I'll check their versions and remove the redland one again to see if it crashes again. Regarding the sesame3 file not found, that is still valid, since all three of those packages have the same version (2.1.1-17.1) but I still get: (Soprano::PluginManager) plugin has proper version. (Soprano::PluginManager) found backend plugin "sesame2" (Soprano::PluginManager) searching plugin file from "/usr/share/soprano/plugins" (Soprano::PluginManager) found plugin file "/usr/share/soprano/plugins/nquadparser.desktop" (Soprano::PluginManager) plugin has proper version. the sesame2 backend issue should already be fixed (at least the one I know about). make sure you have the latest version installed and check "ldd /usr/lib64/soprano/libsoprano_sesame2backend.so | grep found"

Having only the sesame2 backend installed, i.e. without the redland backend, nepomukserver crashes on every kde logout. hmm.. that is supposed to be already fixed.. which package do you have installed exactly (rpm -qi output please)? Some stability issues are expected unfortunately at the moment, however tags should never get lost. do the tags reappear if you restart nepomuk? The tags do reappear after restarting the computer (and as a consequence also nepomuk ;-) ). I think it is very strange that strigidaemon starts up, even when I did not select to start strigi in the system settings...
