[opensuse-kde] vlc is unable to open the MRL media:/dev/sr0
Hello SuSE people, Was [Selecting a Player] thread. Above is the error message I get when trying to open a video DVD with any of the multimedia players. Mplaver, VLC, Xine, etc. The following is a slightly different message. There is no input plugin available to handle 'media:/sr0' Can anyone give me a clue here? Please? Just last night a guy came to our LUG meeting with 11.0 with a similar (the same?) problem. For some strange reason his dvd/cdrom device was /dev/hda - but Kaffeine looks for /dev/dvd and VLC looks for /dev/sr0 I fixed it by creating symlinks with those names to /dev/hda. I found it quite a strange problem - and I wonder if the same has happened to you. Maybe some recent update has caused this problem. Are you on 11.0 too? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Btw... did (encrypted) DVD playback for you before? Is libdvdcss even installed? And, you realize we're way off topic here? ... this is the KDE list ;-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Yes everything is installed. It isn't that I can't make the DVD play. I can, by other round-a-bout methods. Very strange that one method will work but the simplest not. eg: Just one example: When the vlc menu comes up after inserting the DVD, if I click the "Play with VLC" icon, I get the failure message, if instead when the menu comes up and I click the "Do Nothing" menu, or course nothing happens. Now a DVD icon appears on the Desktop. If then I click on the "Play video DVD with VLC" and the VLC menu comes up and I click on "Play" it fails, same as with the original menu. If instead I go to the VLC menu and click on "Media" and select "DVD"and then "Play" the app will start and play the video. Very strange. There are many methods of starting it by working through menus. Just not the simplest one.

Yep, But didn't start out that way. Thanks for sticking with me. Something very strange happening here. Bob S -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Hi Martin, Thanks for replying. Yes. I am running 11.0. Will try your solution and see what happens. See my reply to your next message. Bob S -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
