[opensuse-kde] KDE repository for SLED 12?
Hi, while learning that SLED 12 doesn't contain KDE anymore, I stumbled about Markus mail: http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/SuSE/2014-11/msg00274.html (I know this is a opensuse mailing list but I don't know where else to ask :-)) So I took a look at the available repositories at https://de.opensuse.org/KDE_Repositorys and realized that there is also a SLE_12 branch at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Current/ However, the web page mentions that plasma is not part of these current releases as it is under LTS since 4.11 (whatever that means). So I wonder if this is the right repo for installing KDE including the plasma desktop for SLED 12? Or is there any other repo? The SLE_12 branch below Distro:/Factory seems to be quite outdated. Are there any plans for maintaining a KDE branch for 4 and/or 5 for SLE 12 where one would at least get important security updates for some years? cu, Frank -- Dipl.-Inform. At this moment Antonio Larossa from SUSE is working on this repository to get it fully available for SLE12.

I think that you are mixing thisgs up here. KDE:Current offers a full KDE4 Desktop environment. Some parts of it however are under LTS (Long Term Support). e.g. kdebase4-workspace only offers some bugfixes for its 4.11 version. kdelibs4 actually is on LTS since version 4.9. In the case of kdebase4-workspace this can also be seen that it has version 4.11.x instead of 4.14.
So I wonder if this is the right repo for installing KDE including the plasma desktop for SLED 12? Or is there any other repo?
What do you mean with Plasma desktop ? Is this the new Plasma5/KDE Frameworks environment or do you mean just the KDE4 full desktop environment ? The KDE:Current repository will remain at the versions it is now and contains the latest KDE4 release. This repository will not be migrated to the upcoming Plasma5/Frameworks environment
Are there any plans for maintaining a KDE branch for 4 and/or 5 for SLE 12 where one would at least get important security updates for some years?
This depends on the SLE maintainers more than on the openSUSE KDE community team. We will include a SLE target in the repo's, but it depends if it will fully build based on what SLE has as packages. In many situations it could be that either dependencies are missing or that lower versions are offered. Building the KDE environment for SLE is not the primary target of the openSUSE KDE Community team. Well this can be reformulate as : the openSUSE KDE team welcome any help (in the long term due to the nature of SLE) to maintain a kde's best of for SLE12 ;-) -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Board, fsfe fellowship GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Great to hear that!

That's exactly what I wasn't sure about, thanks for clarifying this! I was just confused by the remark on the web page. Knowing that the KDE:Current branch is a full KDE4 is all I need!

That's fine as a stable KDE4 is enough for us to use with SLE 12 for the next years.

Hi, Its not in my area. We plan a specific area of community contributed packages for SLE12, but I am not up to date. Ciao, Marcus On Fri, Apr 17, 2015 at 12:30:37PM +0200, Frank Steiner wrote:
