-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all: I have read through all the messages relating to Kde 3.1 install problems and I seem to remember some solutions to my problems, but seem to have gone blind reading the messages and have not found what I needed. Problem #1 I have lost the default SuSe background and taskbar icons. I seem to remember someone stating that it was a matter of copying some file. Could some one refresh my mind. Problem #2 Kmail is complaining when opening signed/encrypted mail. I have gnugp 1.2.1 installed and kmail options are to use it. Is there a solutions to this. Problem #3 When I try to install a new rpm, kpackage opens then ask for root password. Then errors with a message saying that the file or directory does not exist. Is there a solutions for this problem as I need to install some rpms to complete some work. Thank you for your help is clearing up these problems. - -- Yours, Ralph. Those are in the package kdebase3-SuSE-8.1 Is that package still installed? Check that with: # rpm -qa | grep "kdebase3-SuSE" Try (re)installing that package.

Ah, yes, a dialog window pops up saying "Problem: OpenPGP plug-in was not specified.". Read more about it at "Project Ägypten", http://www.gnupg.org/aegypten/, and click on the "Development"-link. I rather wait for a decent solution from SuSE (rpm's). ;-) [snip]

Try (re)installing that package. Leendert: Will try and find the file and install. But if memory serves me, it will depend on kde 3.0.4 and will remove some of 3.1. Perhaps a complile from source is needed. Will see and report latter the happenings

I understand your concern. But to install kde-3.1, I removed all of 3.0.x, including kdebase3-SuSE-8.1. As soon as I missed my desktop background, I noticed my error and re-instaled that file. I did not check if re-installing that file did remove any kde-3.1 packages, but kde-3.1 seems to run well. Do a "rpm -qa" before and after installing, and compare the output, if you have doubts. Then you'll know for sure. Cheers, Leen

Leen: I tried a install but it complianed about needing k3b and something else, so I then did a force install and now it is well. The only things left are to drag the needed SuSE icons one by one to the proper directory, to clear up the taskbar icons. And then I need to solve the problem with k package not being able to install rpm as su. All rpms need to be in the root directory then k package will install, this is also a small pain but at least I can add packages. Thanks for your help
