font count and application startup times
Hey, I am running 2 SuSE boxes, one with 9.2, the other one with 9.3 installed. The 9.2 box comes with KDE 3.3.0, 9.3 comes with KDE 3.4.0. Playing around with Kwrite and various language settings I found the following: Kwrite in a german language environment takes 1.9 seconds to start at the 9.2 Box, but 4.0 seconds at 9.3! However, kwrite in a chinese language environment takes 11.3 seconds to start at the 9.2 Box, but "only" 5.2 seconds at 9.3. While I like the better chinese language environment performance, I am verry unhapy with the bad performance under the german language environment. It seems to me, that this has somethin to do with xft. By reducing the number of fonts, application startup times can be reduced enormous. The 9.2 box comes with 634 fonts. After reducing font count to 2, kwrite takes about 1.9 seconts to start under the german language environment, but only 3.6 seconds under the chinese language environment. Compare this with the startup times with 634 fonts installed. Reducing font count at th 9.3 box fron 734 to 2 hase the same effect: kwrite, german environment 2.1 seconds, chinese environment 3.9 seconds. Is this some xft related bug? or is it normal behavior? Shouldnt application startup times be independet from the number of fonts installed? Klaus takes 1.9 seconds to start ___________________________________________________________ Gesendet von Yahoo!
