Hoi listmates,
I have the following error in thunderbird. Links to webpages provided in emails don't do anything. Even rightclick "Open link in browser" does not work. I can't find the orgin of this error. Does anybody know about this problem and/or have a solution?
Didn't you get an answer on the opensuse list?
Anyway this thing comes up almost every day so searching for the issue should bring up some references hopefully meanwhile.

He sure did. I even offered to send him copies of (my) 2 files which will solve the problem - but, no response.

Sorry, I did not see your answer, I was bussy to sort out all the old answers I found on the internet. All did not work most of them are based on the use of the gnome gconf2 tool which does not work in my fresh KDE environment. There was another possible solution which porposes the install of gconf2-branding-opensuse. This gives half of the gnome kit, also a bad solution for my clean install. But I will give your 2 files a try. Nicer was a formal opensuse solution which integrates thunderbird correct in KDE. Basil, thanks in advance for your files, Hans -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Please, please. These prefs are not supported anymore in TB3! I'm repeating myself all the time which is quite frustrating. The link to the most annoying bugs has all needed information. There are two solutions: - install gconf2-branding-openSUSE (which is likely not what you want) - or execute this two simple commands in an X terminal as your user. It's as simple as that! It's also a one time fix as it will persist. There is no need to hack something in start scripts once the commands were executed. Please don't use the coolsolutions and start up scripts are NOT required. AND, prefs are NOT supported anymore in TB3. Open konsole or xterm and type in the following: gconftool-2 -s --type=string /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command "/usr/bin/firefox \"%s\"" *NOTE:* Don't forget to press the *ENTER *key after the end of each line. gconftool-2 -s --type=string /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/https/command "/usr/bin/firefox \"%s\"" Close konsole or sterm and restart Thunderbird 3. The "ml" does *not* set the line length, you do with your editor or chosen method of display or the poster with his editor and chosen line length. I am using Thunderbird (and have been for many, many years). I have tried sending HTML messages to openSUSE fora - and they get rejected. All my messages are written to be sent in HTML format - EXCEPT those destined for specific sites which do not accept HTML, which include openSUSE. TB does not deliberately format to down-size messages but displays what is received. All messages from openSUSE come in as plain text and word-wrapped at 72-chars. However, I have seen some messages coming in from people which are NOT word-wrapped at 72-chars. Why this is so I cannot say, nor care really because I can read them as TB simply displays them across the wide-screen monitor which I have. This message I am writing is being written in wide-screen format (24" wide) but I bet that you see it word-wrapped at 72-chars :-) . That is a "Good Thing"(!TM).

Hummm, your first sentence above is 76 chars after removing the quote indicators :^)

I am certain that your 24 inch wide screen has something to do with that, possibly even causing your 72 char wrap to fail. Believe what you wish. this message hand chiseled in marble with lines broken at 72 chars washed with rocket fuel. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Sounds OK (at 76 without the quote indicator) but 77 taking into account the CR at the end, or 78 overall. The last time I had to "worry" about how many chars an editor has to 'display' before doing a word-wrap was back ~1991. I can only conclude that specs used in internet communications have altered a bit.
However, I have seen some messages coming in from people which are NOT word-wrapped at 72-chars. Why this is so I cannot say, nor care really because I can read them as TB simply displays them across the wide-screen monitor which I have.

I believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Superman, that Nobody Does Anything For A Selfish Reason, but I do not believe that my monitor fiddles with what is being displayed. The monitor does only what it is told.
