OMGWTF! It auto-selected and deleted my "Full Name".
Again, can anyone confirm? Perhaps this is fixed in 4.3; I'm still using 4.2.x on both openSUSE and Debian.
i can't. does this reproducible for you on your both machines?
Yes. It started on Day 1 of KDE 4.2 on either machine.
or it is the same multibooted machine?
No. openSUSE 11.1 is my work laptop. Debian Lenny is my home desktop.
there must be smth special w/ your setup, perhaps Xorg, Qt version or your old keyboard...
I'm not at the Debian system, but it should be using Xorg from Lenny and Qt from Squeeze. The keyboard is old, but it is not the same keyboard I use on my laptop. On the laptop I'm using xorg-x11-server-7.4-17.4.1 and libqt4-4.4.3-13.2. The keyboard is built into the laptop, and a bit newer than the one on my desktop. Assuming my memory of the Debian system is correct: That's Xorg 7.3 on Debian and Xorg 7.4 on openSUSE; no match. That's Qt 4.4 on openSUSE and Qt 4.5 on Debian; no match. I'm thinking it must be some hidden configuration issue. I'll try creating a new user and seeing if the behavior persists. I created a brand-new user. Then, I logged in to KDE 4.2 on the openSUSE machine. I was greeted with the new-user information about SUSE and KDE 4.2. I closed that window. I opened konqueror, and browsed to www.google.com. I opened konsole. I double-clicked in the konqueror address bar to select all that text. I clicked the konsole window. I clicked the konqueror window. My selection was DELETED! So, I can confirm it is NOT one of my personal user settings. I'm thinking I should file a bug @ bugs.kde.org. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I need to include in the bug report? I can reproduce this *perfectly*. It happens *every* time mouse focus changes and I have sometime selected in an editable field. This extends to the KMail compose window, so it is not *just* a QLineEdit/KLineEdit problem. -- Boyd Stephen Smith Jr. ,= ,-_-. =. bss@iguanasuicide.net ((_/)o o(\_)) ICQ: 514984 YM/AIM: DaTwinkDaddy `-'(. .)`-' http://iguanasuicide.net/ \_/

There was somebody on IRC and he reported that it happened because of him (not) using SCIM as input method. I cannot remember the details though. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I have the little SCIM applet in my systray, but I don't really need different input methods on this system. I'm... what do you call a person that only speaks one language?... an American. ;) I have 3 input methods other than English/Keyboard: da-post, vi-tcvn, cmc- kbd, but using any one of them actually causes me more trouble than it would alleviate. I'll fiddle with some SCIM settings and see what's up. -- Boyd Stephen Smith Jr. ,= ,-_-. =. bss@iguanasuicide.net ((_/)o o(\_)) ICQ: 514984 YM/AIM: DaTwinkDaddy `-'(. .)`-' http://iguanasuicide.net/ \_/

had the same problem. start yast, go to software management, search for scim-bridge. it'll show three installed packages. uninstall them. that should fix it. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I fiddled with the SCIM settings a bit and then decided it had caused me enough problems and uninstalled everything that came up in a search for either "scim" or "uim". That was before I got your message. I'm still experiencing the problem, but I think I need to restart my DE to see the changes.

I went for a full reboot, just in case. It resolved the issue on the openSUSE system. I'll look for a similar solution on Debian once that system gets the new hardware it needs.

Since I'm thinking this affects multiple distributions, does anyone know the proper way to report bugs "upstream" on this package?
