[opensuse-kde] Plasma5+Frameworks5 stable packages?
hey ya, i just wanted to update my stable packages of plasma 5 and frameworks 5 to the latest 5.0.2 bugfix and 5.2.0 release respectively. but apparently the repo http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Frameworks5/openSUSE_13.1/ has some packages of git-master-snapshots instead of the released stable packages. i didn't noticed this until after the update, so now my plasma5-session is basically broken. is this intentional? and if so, where can i get the actual stable packages? are there any at all? thanks for the help. cheers, sebastian -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Frameworks release 5.2.0, some cherry-picked 5.0.2 releases are there. Components with only version bump are skipped. The pre-release parts are there due to schedule of 13.2. Since we already had known we'd have Plasma 5 in 13.2, some components are updated so that we manage to squeeze in 5.1, which delivers much better, and stable (at least in general ;-) experience.
but apparently the repo http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Frameworks5/openSUSE_13.1/ has some packages of git-master-snapshots instead of the released stable packages.
i didn't noticed this until after the update, so now my plasma5-session is basically broken. Can you point to what is broken? Ideally over at bugzilla.

What do you mean with "basically broken"? Everything works fine here (on 13.1 as well). Make sure that you updated _all_ packages to the latest versions (from KDE:Frameworks5 _and_ KDE:Qt5). Having a mixture of old 5.0.1 and new 5.0.95 plasma packages definitely can (and will) cause problems. And all Frameworks packages should be 5.2.0 as well.
is this intentional?
Probably, but I cannot really give you a definitive answer. I'd say this maybe has been done because of the imminent openSUSE 13.2 Beta release. It might not be possible to ship 13.2 with Plasma 5.1.x otherwise.
and if so, where can i get the actual stable packages? are there any at all?
None that I know of. Kind Regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

What do you mean with "basically broken"? well, something crashes to the point of no return. display flickers, turns black, the panel is shown in grey, thats it. Everything works fine here (on 13.1 as well).
Make sure that you updated _all_ packages to the latest versions (from KDE:Frameworks5 _and_ KDE:Qt5). i just did this again. and there have been indeed some missing framework- packages. and i see, that your rebuilding packages just now. so something may have led to some broken packages or wrong dependencies on my system. so just bad luck i guess. Having a mixture of old 5.0.1 and new 5.0.95 plasma packages definitely can (and will) cause problems. And all Frameworks packages should be 5.2.0 as well.

fyi: with the new packages plasma still crashes occasionally. but i've been able get krunner working. well i dont see anything, but i can type a command: kwin_x11 --replace did the trick. so kwin5 crashes. i'm going to investigate and probably file a bug report. thanks for the help, sebastian

point a) try with a test/clean user, to rule out config problem, b) try running plasmashell/kwin via command line to see is there some indication there. additionally, i'd advise running kbuildsycoca5 --noincremental Cheers, Hrvoje

Well, I don't think it's a config problem if "kwin --replace" fixes it. And the ksycocacache doesnt't seem to be the problem then, either. ;) Running kwin in a command line might provide clues though of course. In addition, you might try to disable the "Desktop Effects", or set the Composite system to "XRender" as a workaround. No idea if that would help though. A bug report (upstream at http://bugs.kde.org/) would be a good idea anyway, I suppose. This seems to be a graphics driver specific issue, I think.
