[opensuse-kde] Debug log of KDE
Hello, I'm using opensuse 12.1 with KDE 4.8.0. Starting KDE needs a long time and I would like to switch on some kind of debug logging to find out where the time is used. After username and password is entered in the start dialog, you see the 5 icons (disk, toolbox, world, screen, K) on the screen, the last of them which is the white 'K' in the blue square. The first 4 icons start pretty fast, but it needs approx. 40 seconds to execute what is done with the 'K'. I assume there is a timeout somewhere and I would like to find out what causes the delay. How can I switch on a debug logging ? (By the way: The same delay exists with KDE 4.7.x, but it was not there with OpenSuse 11.3) Thanks, Michael -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Run 'kdebugdialog'. Enabling logging (which is kde- globally disabled by default, for speed, ironically) will allow all KDE apps to log to standard output. In a session started from a display manager, this is redirected to ~/.xsession-errors. You can watch this file during login with tail from a console, or ideally, a remote machine so you can watch the session startup process on another display. Will Hi Will,
thanks for your hint. Good to know this for the future. For now I had fixed the problem by deleting the $HOME/.kde* directories. During next logon it came up quite fast.
