I downloaded the sources of KNemo from http://packman.links2linux.com/?action=439 and successfully ./configure make and make install -ed them. But how do I load KNemo? The KDE Apps page at http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=12956 says: KNemo is not an executable but an KDED service. Therefore it has to be started using Control Center/KDE Components/Service Manager. But the service manager doesn't show KNemo. What do I do? Please advise. Thanks. Regarding KMail, the problem is: I have added suse-linux-e@suse.com to my address book and given it the nickname SLE. When I used to use Mozilla I used to be able to just enter the nickname and Mozilla would automatically expand it to the full. Doesn't this work so with KMail? Thanks again. -- (o- Penguin #395953 lives at http://samvit.org //\ subsisting on ancient Indian wisdom ... V_/_ and modern computing efficiency! :)

hi Shiriramana, You should check your settings then for KMail, because it has autocomplete available. By the time you type the first letter or second, all your email addresses associated with those letters will magically appear in your "To" line! I thought it was on by default, but it may not be, so check your settings for the composer. regards, Lee

Yes it was by default, but since I have many outgoing addresses in my history starting with s, I would prefer to just type sle (nickname for suse-linux-e@suse.com) and be done with it. With the built in autocomplete, I have to scan through the history of all mails starting with s and manually select the right one, which takes much time. I can do this on Mozilla. Just try it out! -- (o- Penguin #395953 lives at http://samvit.org //\ subsisting on ancient Indian wisdom ... V_/_ and modern computing efficiency! :)

You miss the point then. If you associate a certain address with SLE, then type SLE in the "TO" box, you will get that address. Just the same way you did on Mozilla, just try it out! end of line Lee

OK I just tried this, but the difference from Mozilla is that Mozilla immediately translates SLE to suse-linux-e utt suse.com in the address box but KMail does that only after I hit Ctrl+Enter. Does that tally with your experience? -- (o- Penguin #395953 lives at http://samvit.org //\ subsisting on ancient Indian wisdom ... V_/_ and modern computing efficiency! :)

No, not really. Unless you have some keyboard shortcut or setting I don't, then it's a simple matter of typing a few letters of the addressee I want, down arrow, then enter. Say I wanted to send an email to Eric. I type eric, the address appears, press down arrow, then enter. Never thought it was too complicated, but maybe it is. ;o) end of line Lee

Yes and no. It depends on how you have the "autocompletion" setup. Try this: 1. Right click on the To field 2. Select Text Completion 3. Select the type of autocompletion you would like. You probably have it set to Manual (which requires Ctrl+Enter). My guess is that you want "Short Automatic" Hope this helps, Alvin -- Please reply to the list.
I noticed that nobody perhaps noted the part about KNemo. That's more problematic that KMail. Thanks. Sunday 04 Sep 2005 08:25 samaye Shriramana Sharma alekhiit:

Why not use the RPM? You can add an installation source and install knemo via Yast. http://www.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Updating_KDE_and_other_applications_... Sven

'Sit okay if I use the 9.2 RPM? 'Cause that's what I get on Packman. I have done ./configure make make install from the sources successfully though, on 9.3. Do I really need to use the 9.2 RPM? In what way will it help? Thanks. -- (o- Penguin #395953 lives at http://samvit.org //\ subsisting on ancient Indian wisdom ... V_/_ and modern computing efficiency! :)

It is there. I believe this is one of those situations where you have to logout/login to restart KDE to see it appear. Stan

I've rebooted many times in the interim after installing KNemo but I still don't see it. Aw what's there, I started using KNetMon. Am I missing much from KNemo? -- (o- Penguin #395953 lives at http://samvit.org //\ subsisting on ancient Indian wisdom ... V_/_ and modern computing efficiency! :)

Did you look here: KDE Control Center (from KDE main menu) -> Internet & Network (category) -> Network Monitor This is where you configure KNemo. Randall Schulz

Well... Did you install the package? To wit: % rpm -qa |egrep -i nemo knemo-0.3.1-6 That command should produce a similar output if you have KNemo installed. If you don't, launch YaST Install & Remove, find and install that package. Randall Schulz
