[opensuse-kde] gtk3 apps ignoring Plasma UI fonts
FF 47.0.1 is my most used example, occurring on multiple installations on multiple machines with multiple profiles. I install FF ESR rpm, and use mozilla.org binaries for other releases. In 5.24.0/QT5.6.1 (aka TW; as well as 13.2/KDE4), FF 47 is ignoring UI fonts, as if its UI DPI was set to a lower value (e.g. 96) rather than actual DPI (e.g. 120). However, fonts and DPI in web pages are working exactly the same as in ESR. This was not a problem with mozilla.org's 46.0.x. Neither is it a problem with 47.0.1 running KDE3, so I'm in brainlock what to try. Even though kde-gtk-config5 is installed, there is no place I can find in Plasma5 systemsettings to choose GTK fonts, and I'm at a loss to figure out what other package might be missing to provide such control. Is there any such package any more for controlling fonts in either GTK2 or GTK3 apps in the latest Plasma? If so, what? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg. Linux User #211409 ** a11y rocks! kde-gtk-config5. You will find an entry "Application Appearance"->"GTK" in systemsettings5 if you install that. Kind Regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

OK, so now that that's explained, and with Adwaita as the style for GTK3 on both, what's the answer to the question "Given identical mozilla.org builds and DEs on both, why are UI fonts smaller on Tumbleweed's RV47 than RV45" (TW behavior is same in Plasma5 and IceWM as in KDE3.): http://fm.no-ip.com/SS/Moz/uifontsRV47.html -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Upstream bug (cross-distro) pins the blame: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=367499 Left unfixed, as it appears will be for foreseeable future at least, it means upgrading to 42.2 will not be possible without considerable pain for those using non-96DPI environments, unless possibly with some kind of additional GTK bloat, or switching over entirely to a GTK-based DE. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Yes, because it apparently is a GTK problem, so cannot be fixed in KDE or kde- gtk-config. Complaining about it here (or in KDE's bugzilla) won't help you either... And TBH, I also don't see how "switching over entirely to a GTK-based DE" will help then. But feel free to try it. Posting here wasn't intended as a complaint, but an offering of awareness that hopefully would serve to result either in a relnote on the soon release of 42.2 if it's to be released with Mozilla apps built with their GTK3 defaults, continuing to build with GTK2 until a fix shows up, or offering a choice between GTK2 and GTK3 builds of Mozilla apps. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." This is still the wrong place to raise such an awareness IMHO. Those "Mozilla apps" are not maintained by the KDE team and have no relation to KDE (other than Firefox being used as default browser in a KDE installation).

The Mozilla apps are still being built with GTK2 in openSUSE, and in 42.2 in particular. Kind Regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
