-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I am riunning SuSE 8.1 and KDE 3.1. The login manager doesn't appear to be working properly. If I change most configurations in the login manager the changes do not take effect. For example, if I select the logo rather the clock for kdm, the change has no effect. However, I can change the background colors or use an image. Changes to the user defaults do not work. Any suggestions for a fix? Same troubles here. I can change in the Kcontrolcenter whatever I will. Nothing will happen. Somebody said it seems to be a bug that the configfile is not written correctly. I reinstalled the kde3base package, got the new default settings, but still the old messed up login (in my case I can start whatever session, all I get is an xterm from where I can start KDE by hand) Is not a real big help, just lets you know, that you are not alone *G* Andreas
I am having similar problems, using SUSE Linux, Rel.8.0. I cannot change the wallpaper of the login manager, no matter what I do (un-/re-install, etc.). -- Panos Platon Tsapralis, SAP-R/3 specialist, ABAP/4 developer, Registered Linux User #305894, Athens, GREECE, e-mail: my_suselinux@yahoo.gr, panosplaton@hotmail.com

There are several solutions to your problems, one may be to delete the /tmp stuff, but not the directory. Another is to remove all old kde settings in your home directory. Finally, in my /home/desktop directory I deleted the file .directory (dont forget the dot!) and that solved my problem. Relogin after each deletion to see which works. Try by renaming the files you intend to delete and then be patient when restarting things as many of those files deleted will be recreated on restart. HTH< richard
