[opensuse-kde] Using Google calendar with KOrganizer
Hi there, Google allows to export the calendar with an *.ics URL so you can access the Google calendar with other applications like KOrganizer. Unfortunately the remote *.ics file is read only, so you cannot add an item in KOrganizer and write it back to Google. Is there a way to change this to edit the Google calendar locally in KOrganizer and upload it to Google? Thanx Malte -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

You can set Akonadi Calendar Resource Google Calendar (press alt+f2 and type akonadi and choose Akonadi Settings, add Akonadi resource for Google Calendar and make it default). I use KDE 4.4 and it more or less works, but I'm not very satisfied. For example when I add whole day event in Google or Android smartphone, it is shown as 2 days event in KOrganizer... And updates from KOrganizer to Google are not very relibale too... Well, I have to say I think about mooving to Evolution. at least until KDE PIM 2 is available as official part of openSUSE...
Thanx Malte

The package containing this is akonadi-googledata. Vojtech, did you have any problems logging in with this? My Google account is @gmail.com and it never accepts my password. You should report the 'whole day event' bug if not yet know. It should be easy to fix. It is not in standard repository, search in OBS...

I add only username (without @gmail.com) and it accepts it, but sometimes asks about the password again in several days... No idea why... Once I asked about Google and Akonadi at KDE Linux mailing list and very long respond said that I'm using too old version and it will be working fine in the future... :-/

There were similar issues, but not exactly this, so I reported it.

i had the same problem a while ago. extensive googling told me that in KDE system settings, network, proxy settings, you have to specifically say "connect to the internet directly." by default there's nothing selected. setting this to "direct" worked for me, i.e., google now accepts my password for calendar data & contact list. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Thanx for this important hint! But, now I get "Failed getting last updated event." what does this error mean? Malte -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Hm, I use OpenSUSE 11.2 and I get nothing when i enter "akonadi" in alt-f2. I've found another solution now: GCALDaemon http://www.terminally-incoherent.com/blog/2007/10/11/howto-two-way-sync- between-kontact-and-gcal/ Looks like a good way too. http://userbase.kde.org/Kontact/Kontact_Palm_Pre_Sync is actually talking about having calendars on Kontact, Palm Pre and Google Calendar, all synced. It might be worth a look. Anne -- KDE Community Working Group New to KDE Software? - get help from http://userbase.kde.org

The package you need is akonadi-googledata, which is located in the community repositories. So, you might need to add the KDE:Extra repository. You might check this one: http://www.my-guides.net/en/content/view/178/26/ Although it describes for KDE 4.3.4, it also works for KDE 4.4 (at least for me) -- Thoar Varenkamp Profile: http://en.opensuse.org/User:Thoar -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I want to keep the official KDE 4.3 that comes with openSUSE 11.2. Is there also a KDE:Extra for the official KDE of SUSE 11.2? Regards Malte -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Yes, 5th entry here: https://build.opensuse.org/project/repositories?project=KDE:Extra However, there are definitely bugs present in 11.2's KDE 3 Akonadi that have been fixed in newer releases. Do you have a reason for wanting to keep KDE 4.3.5 other than fear of an update making things worse? I run 4.5.1 on 11.2 on my home desktop and it is a lot better than 4.3.5. I have no problems with a KDE update, I just want to have a consistent system that guarantees periodic updates. Regards Malte -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
