KDE Updates via YAST
Hi all After I updated some files of KDE to 3.5, my YAST updates is not working anymore, whenever I do a update, I am told that are no updates available, although I know that there are updates available. (Almost 60 days since last update.) What can I do to get it working again? Kobus

Have you refreshed your Install Sources? Alvin -- Please reply to the list and not my email address. Thank you.

I checked it again it only shows the DVD. I suppose I should add the update servers? Which addresses?

I'm not sure what SUSE version you are using, but I'm using 9.3. In Yast->Change Source of Installation I use the http://suse.osuosl.org mirror for KDE, GNOME, misc sources. But you might want to use a mirror that is closer to you? Alvin -- Please reply to the list and not my email address. Thank you.

Alvin I use Suse 10.0. The update paths seems fine, I also checked it with another computer on my network. It seems that YAST do communicate with the update server, but that the list that it receives, shows that there are no available updates. Kobus

This happended to me on some occasions. I think it helped to delete the source and close the yast-module. Start it again and add the source, maybe even a different mirror. Hope that helps! Sven

I think you are using YaST Online Update. It only has updates (patches) for packages officially released (supported) by suse. With SuSE 10.0, the updates are only for kde 3.4.2. If you want updates to your kde 3.5 (from the supplementary repository), that's where Alvin's suggestion comes in: you have to refresh your Installation Sources _and_ 'update' your kde thru YaST->Software->Software Management (not YaST Online Update).

Yes, indeed I used to use YAST online update. I tried to add a update site with the following settings, but the system give me an error when I apply the settings, what am I doing wrong? Server and Directory Screen: Chosen: HTTP Server name: suse.osuosl.org Directory on server: I changed that from root upto suse/i386/update/10.0/patches (also each directory on its own.) Username: Anonymous When I apply it it comes back with this error: "Unable to create installation source from URL "http://suse.osuosl.org/suse/i386/update/10.0/patches". Details: ERROR(InstSrc:E_no_instsrc_on_media) Try Again?" Thanks for the help so far. Kobus

Sorry Kobus, I was mistaken. As Lemuel stated, I was talking about the Yast repositories, which is not the same as Yast Online Update. I assumed since you upgraded to KDE 3.5, that you use the Yast repos to do so. Did you update the KDE 3.5 by downloading the RPMs yourself? My previous email wont help you with the Yast Online Update. Sorry. Alvin -- Please reply to the list and not my email address. Thank you.

If you want to update KDE to 3.5.1, then follow http://en.opensuse.org/Updating_KDE_and_other_software_via_YaST. YOU is only meant for security updates, so you should not try to use it for updating KDE. Sven

The dir you chose is for YOU updatesm not for KDE updates. A dir that can be added as source has to have a content and a directory.yast file in it, as e.g. ftp://sunsite.rwth-aachen.de/pub/Linux/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_10.0/yast-source You could read in the opensuse-wiki: http://en.opensuse.org/Updating_KDE_and_other_software_via_YaST Sven
