[opensuse-kde] How to get panel back?
Hi, I installed 11.2 from netinstall just today, on a p4p800 asus mainboard with p4x2 3GHz. After updating and hardware configuring i logged in. I wanted to set a screensaver. After selecting it, the desktop froze, and i had to reset with the button. After rebooting, the panel was gone, not to return after a few reboots.. So no control whatsoever just alt+F2 in kde4. I removed the whole .kde4 dir, as all was just new i thought np. This did not bring back the panel also... Any tip as how to proceed to get a panel back again? tia... -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) (Now or never...) For future reference. Either: Right click desktop -> add panel -> manually add the different widgets (menu, taskbar, systray, clock etc.) to the empty panel Or to reset the plasma desktop completely. 'kquitapp plasma-desktop' -> remove plasma* configuration files from .kde4/share/config/ -> Restart plasma with 'plasma-desktop' You must have removed .kde4/ while plasma was running, otherwise it should have worked. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

i can remove the contents of . /.../.../config entirely to accomplish that?
You must have removed .kde4/ while plasma was running, otherwise it should have worked.
I tried to add a panel...but only bar that contains height and such appeared at the top of the screen, not the panel itself, and i could not get it to the bottom... I removed it while the desktop was running, you are correct... I wanted to reset the desktop completely by removing the .kde dir, but failed..(in earlier versions it would have worked if irc, i did that several times when kde4 was 'under construction'...) I thought when it not finds .kde4 when starting up, it will re-create.... Maybe thought too simple? thnx 4 ur reply Martin...;)
'kquitapp plasma-desktop'
is this the command to exit the desktop and getting to init3 or 5? -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) (Now or never...) It's the command to quit the plasma-desktop. The runlevel is not affected by that whatsover, neither is the x server, window manager, or anything else - just the plasma desktop shell. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
