[opensuse-kde] susehelp still needed?
Hi, Is susehelp still used/needed by KDE? Looks quite outdated and requires info2html which looks like a drop candidate to me. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I have used susehelp for decades, and I liked it, but it is broken now, has been broken for a long time. I have uninstalled and re-installed it to make sure I have fresh config files, but it doesn't work: cer@Telcontar:~> susehelp Use of uninitialized value $kdeversion in numeric eq (==) at /usr/bin/susehelp-khelpcenter line 7. Use of uninitialized value $kdeversion in numeric eq (==) at /usr/bin/susehelp-khelpcenter line 12. Use of uninitialized value $kdeversion in numeric eq (==) at /usr/bin/susehelp-khelpcenter line 17. Use of uninitialized value $kshell in concatenation (.) or string at /usr/bin/susehelp-khelpcenter line 24. Use of uninitialized value $khelpcenter in concatenation (.) or string at /usr/bin/susehelp-khelpcenter line 24. cer@Telcontar:~> I'm not using KDE, but XFCE. Originally, susehelp worked on all desktops and even in text mode. In text mode the error is: cer@Telcontar:~> susehelp Unable to find local doc server. If you want to use the doc server you have to set the variable DOC_SERVER in /etc/sysconfig/apache2 to 'yes' and start apache. cer@Telcontar:~> That variable is indeed set in my system since ever, does not work. Apache is running. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)

I am not sure. KDE maintainers - do any current khelpcenter packages still have susehelp patches? KDE:KDE3 packages perhaps? Yes, both the KDE4 version in kdebase4-runtime, and the KF5 version (package khelpcenter5). And we patched KDE Frameworks5's kcmutils and kguiaddons to run susehelp instead of khelpcenter. I think we should consider dropping those patches though. Currently displaying the help is completely broken in KDE applications when using a non-KDE desktop (because susehelp-khelpcenter only supports KDE desktops). There's even a bug report about this: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1018970 In that case, we could also drop the patch that renames the KF5 version to khelpcenter5, and drop khelpcenter from kdebase4-runtime. KDE4 applications should then just use the KF5 version too (like now via susehelp). So let's get rid of it. I've filed a delete request for Factory. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
