Since upgrading to 3.0.3 Login Manager appears to have stop working. I have selected users as "dave" & "root" and show users = "all but no show". When I get to the login screen only "dave" is displayed ? I also have "dave" set for a password-less login, but the login screen always demands his password ? Strangely, the avaiable users list shows several application names (eg. adbas, amanda, etc.)? Can anyone suggest a solution? TIA Dave

Usually, problems like these are because the control centre works on one config file and kdm actually uses another. The symlink between the two are broken in the upgrade. Check that /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc actually is a symlink to /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc. if it isn't, create it with ln -s /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc In the /etc/opt/kd[...] directory it's a possibility (it happened to me) that rpm will have moved kdmrc to kdmrc.rpmsave. If that's the case, just rename it to kdmrc before you create the symlink. regards Anders

Thanks Anders, You were absolutly right. The symlink was there, but linked to kdmrc.rpmsave. Regards Dave

Thank you Anders. Mine had a different kdmrc under /opt as from /etc . It seems you might have other security features still enabled. Usually, root isn't shown in the login manager; generally it's a good practice to follow as well. You may have to take root out of the "No Show" category in order to see it in the login manager. (Just speculation of course!) Not sure why you can't get a password-less login though. The Users list shows app's names because they have certain permissions to access particular parts of the directory structure that doesn't need to be run by anyone else. If you look there should also be a user called nobody. I personally just leave it alone... nothing really necessary to mess around with. Hope that helps you a little bit... Hi Mathew, Anders, kindly identified the problem and the solution (see "Solved" in this thread). Thanks for pointing out the reason for the app's names in the user list. It was fairly obvious when I stopped to think about it. Regards Dave On Wed, 2002-09-25 at 13:52, Matthew Kennedy wrote:
