some of the plasma widgets that used to work earlier (4.6.x ?) don't anymore, with messages like "could not open the xxx package required for the xxx widget" among them: facebook, Drop2TagIcon, Plasma PyWeather, Plasma Volume. also widgets i installed from look.kde.org (or what's the name) bug out with the same error. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

once, yesterday, nepomuk got stuck with 100% on one CPU; simply killing the process via ksysguard solved the problem. in general, akonadi/nepomuk/strigi gives much less trouble than it used to though. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I zypper dup'd to M4 yesterday and have run K:D:F for a while now. Main problem I had initially was KMail2 migration but after cleaning it up that seems OK now. Still tend to get a Nepomuk crash on startup after rebooting the box. Click the 'Restart' button on the popup and close it and it runs after that. I don't reboot/restart very often, so I only note it happening at startup. I had quite some fun after the M4 update; KDM login screen was good but once in the desktop everything was upside down and all text was garbled, looked a lot like maybe koi8-r as a loose description. I first renamed .kde4 to .kde4-backup and logged out/in and got default desktop without the problem. I deleted .kwinrc and rebooted and the desktop came back with desktop effects turned off. Turning them back on and a fiddle or two in settings and the upside down screen happened again. I tried installing 2 newer versions of Nvidia drivers (.run files from web site download) afterwards and that didn't fix anything. For whatever reason when I reinstalled 260.19.44 back and rebooted desktop effects came back and now everything is good again. Somehow, it was deleting .kwinrc and a reinstall of the 'good' drivers that fixed everything. -Mike -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

i've seen this every time X11 or mesa received an update, until i re-compiled my nvidia drivers (280.13). after that recompile everything was fine. but i'm using X11 from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.4 -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

+1 on this one. I just recompile the Nvidia driver, installed the hardway from Nvidia's website, and it fixes it. I'm not using X11. My major problem on both 11.4 and 12.1 MS4 is the distribution groups are not being updated or created in Kmail, either 1.13.7 on 11.4 and kmail2 on 12.1. After creating group in Contacts the group shows up in Kmail X with correct number if contacts but the information about contacts is totally blank. -- Russ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

some non-KDE applications don't respond well if i try to force them to use a specific size via configure win. behavior -> window rules. opera per ex. moves off the screen or assumes a tiny window at 0,0, no matter what size or position i try to specify. in general that feature seems a bit flaky, as i often have to delete all window rules, mostly after zypper updates, i think. pretty much stopped using window rules, which would otherwise be useful. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
You mean in general or only stuff that is new with 4.7? In the latter case, I have several problem: 1. Plasma GHNS doesn't remember when widgets are installed or updated 2. Auto-connect wifi doesn't auto-connect 3. akonadi's imap resource and nepomuk feeder take massive amounts (gigabytes) of memory 4. If anything goes wrong with akonadi it crashes plasma. Sometimes plasma will restart, other times it won't 5. drkonqi often prevents me from logging out. I can't see the window or anything else, so I can't close it, forcing me to log into another virtual terminal and kill it manually 6. Something is filling up my .xsessionerrors file with hundreds of gigabytes of data, but I haven't been able to determine what because I can't properly run most programs without hard drive space On Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 11:26 AM, Ismail Donmez <idoenmez@suse.de> wrote:

Maybe it's time for you to nuke your plasma-desktop-appletsrc, and reconfigure from scratch. Sometimes you have to do this to avoid crashy plasma :-( The magic one-shot command is: kquitapp plasma-desktop && old ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma* && plasma-desktop & And maybe review your choice of plasmoids, some are flaky and will crash Plasma, especially non KDE SC ones. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

That's a dangerous thing to ask ;-) Using 11.4+KDF I only noticed two significant non-pim issues so far, both fairly cosmetic, yet important if we want anyone to take our distro seriously. 1) A new user will have "icons" for Firefox and Dolphin in the panel, _and_ also "launchers" for the same apps. I'm not completely sure about the difference between "icons" and "launchers", except it seems the "launchers" become invisible while the respective app is, the "icons" don't. 2) Our icons in Dolphin for "Documents" and "public_html", do not match the new style of folder icons in KDE SC 4.7 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

probably because there's only one virt. desktop configured. don't understand why that's the default now. virtual desktops is one of the advantages over standard windows installations that's immediately obvious to new users. if not four, at least two virt. desktops should be there, IMO.
3) The "cashew" is even more annoying and obtrusive than usual. 4) There's an "Activities widget" in the panel by default, which will surely lead to lots of confusion and crashy plasma, while bringing almost zero benefit.
seems somebody wants to push the use of activities. not a good idea at this time i think, because they're not integrated well with the rest of the KDE UI yet: no shortcuts, windows can't be assigned via window rules, not possible to have different panels in diff. activities. as it is now, i find activities complicate life w/o much benefit over additional desktops. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

+1 for both icons. Best would be a package-manager neutral to rpm/deb/etc. Wouln't it be better (longterm, ease of packaging) to produce a matching ( to the actual style ) svg - base version and ask upstrem to integrate them into oxygen-icon-theme itself ? That way the work on our side (Martin Schlander) would be just once and the other distros and further versions would get it too, without a hack. I have a faint idea.
Iirc those icons are SUSE specific, I put those icons together a few years ago, and sent them to Beineri. But I'm not sure what package actually contains them, possibly desktop-data-openSUSE.
I might try to dig around a bit further and see if I can find something out.
It's in oxygen-icon-theme. The documents icon is there as additional source but the icon for public_html is directly from the oxygen tarball.
There is only additionally the following in the spec
install -D -m 0644 $RPM_BUILD_ROOT/usr/share/icons/oxygen/22x22/places/folder- html.png $RPM_BUILD_ROOT/usr/share/icons/oxygen/22x22/places/folder_html.png
and for the other sizes.
We can just remove those now I think. What do you guys think?
I can quickly "produce" a replacement that's coherent with the new oxygen folder style.
Actually only "package-manager-icon" should be reproduced for Oxygen, no?
+1 for both icons. Best would be a package-manager neutral to rpm/deb/etc.
Wouln't it be better (longterm, ease of packaging) to produce a matching ( to the actual style ) svg - base version and ask upstrem to integrate them into oxygen-icon-theme itself ?
That way the work on our side (Martin Schlander) would be just once and the other distros and further versions would get it too, without a hack.

I removed our custom document icons for now. I downloaded oxygen-icons-4.7.0.tar.bz2 from kde.org and compare the icons of the package with the icons I have under my openSUSE 12.1 M3. And yes, it isn´t the same, but the design is almost like ours. Is there any chance to get the old design back? -- -o) Kim Leyendecker /\\ openSUSE Ambassador, openSUSE Wiki Team DE _\_v http://www.opensuse.org - Linux for open minds -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Hi all,
Anyone using KDE:Distro:Factory on their machines, please let me know if something is broken for you (except the KMail2 resource collection bug).
Many thanks!
Actually something change, now opening a device in notification try open konqueror (wrong), dolphin was before (right) Once I check in system-settings the default application, I found konqueror checked, which is a change to my setup (dolphin was setup here in 4.4 era) -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Ambassador GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
