[opensuse-kde] Disable ksuseinstall
Hi. Is it possible to disable that buggy ksuseinstall stuff? I don't need a window telling me that software needs to be installed and spawns like a million processes of mplayer whenever I try to open a video file that plays just fine in VLC. Bye, Markus
I don't know if there is a way to completely disable it, but ... I don't understand why ksuseinstall would be "spawning like a million processes". Do you mean when you click "no" when asked to install something? I don't see this behaviour. If you like VLC better than mplayer, make it the default in the KDE settings, I think that should work. and anyway: [opensuse-kde] Call for testing: on-demand package installation:
Lubos Lunak: I have a don't-ask-again in my TODO.
You should contribute in the thread (on this ML no less!) discussing this if you were experiencing issues, it's not helpful to just call something "buggy". Regards, Tejas -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

There is no Yes/No question -- at least not for Matroska files. A "Checking for software to install" window with progress bar opens immediately and then runs VLC nonetheless.

It is default already. Don't you think I know which applications I've set as default?

I subscribed to this list after I didn't find anything useful in the archives.

I didn't "just" call it buggy. I called it buggy and gave an error description which is still as much of a description I can give, because there is no error message or anything. I tried to record this behavior, but recordmydesktop does not really function when 5 or so mplayer processes along with zypper hog the CPU completely. My guess is that the mplayer processes have nothing to do with ksuseinstall, as this was already present without it, see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=562110 Christian -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Thanks. Disabling that view reduced the problem. The "Checking for software to install" window with progress bar still opens, however. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Not now, it will be possible to add [KSUSEInstall]Enabled=false to the config file.
I don't need a window telling me that software needs to be installed and spawns like a million processes of mplayer whenever I try to open a video file that plays just fine in VLC.
That's not a very helpful problem description. -- Lubos Lunak openSUSE Boosters team, KDE developer l.lunak@suse.cz , l.lunak@kde.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I'm sorry, but when I don't get an error message or anything, I can't be totally precise. As you might have seen in the mail by Christian, the mplayer part is caused by Dolphin. He referred to the following bug report: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=562110 However, the "Checking for software to install" window still opens. It happens at least in conjunction with Matroska videos. Markus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I'm expecting totally precise. I'm expecting precise enough to let me understand and reproduce the problem. And it's not necessary to create a video, just saying what triggered the problem and what the actual problem is should be enough. I'm still not sure about what the actual problem is, but I expect I've already fixed that with my latest changes, and until those get published another solution might be editting the filetype handling application's properties and adding the missing mimetype to its supported list, where it's missing. -- Lubos Lunak openSUSE Boosters team, KDE developer l.lunak@suse.cz , l.lunak@kde.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I experienced some similar problem with matroska videos -- although vlc was installed and the default application to open those, this ksuseinstall dialog popped up -- it reported there was no application installed that could handle mimetype "video/x-matroska" (or similar -- important part is video here...). So I looked up which mimetypes vlc supports and indeed, vlc has no entry for "video/x-matroska" but "application/x-matroska" and therefore it wasn't recognised by ksuseinstall as being capable to handle that video file. I guess an addition of "video/x-matroska" to the mimetypes list of vlc should be enough to solve this problem. -- Thomas Schwarzgruber <possebaer@gmx.at> linux user since 2.0.38 In a world without walls and fences, who needs windows and gates ? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I've had problems with iso files as well. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
