Does anyone know if/when suse will release KDE 3.3 over yast2 online update? -- Peace, Jake Sallee spark@breathedeeply.com Hate viruses? Hate Microsoft? Try Linux! SuSE Linux 9.1 Professional www.suse.com

Approximately never. YOU only does incremental updates--mostly for security or other bug-fix purposes--to packages that were included in official SuSE distributions. KDE 3.3 will presumably part of the next official release from SuSE, though there are fears / suspicions that now that SuSE is part of Novell, Ximian will become the desktop of choice. Personally, I'll be sticking with KDE, even if it means switching from SuSE, though I don't want to do that. It does seem unlikely they'd stop including it, but whether it will get as strong a support as it has traditionally received in SuSE is not currently known (outside SuSE / Novell).

I see. I was wondering if they were actually going to release it since 3.3 came out in only 6 months.

Yah, I know this. I really hope they decide on KDE as the default desktop...especially since SuSE put so much development into it. If RedHat is going to be #1 Linux seller with GNOME as their default, than SuSE should stick with KDE. I just don't like GNOME and for me it's like comparing Apple's OS9 to OSX...9 just doesn't cut it.

Sorry, my SuSE system is in spanish language O:) Try: 1.- Open Yast Control Center 2.- Open Software 3.- Open Change source installation 4.- Add ftp site Type: ftp.suse.com/ pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.1/yast-source 5.- Switch to "Active" and "Move up" 6.- Close And now... 7.- Open Update System Please... before Update System... data backup ;) This method is running in my SuSE 8.2 (KDE 3.3 updated via Yast) and it is also running with SuSE 9.1 Good luck! ...and take care in options of the Upgrade System. I am selected "upgrade packages only installed". May the Force be with you.. Best regards, Delta99
The force was with me! Everything went smooth except for one issue. This happened when I upgraded my laptop last week. Whenever I log into KDE, my volumes are not loaded. Everytime, KAmix shows all of my volumes as being turned down. There is no "mixer" section in the control center anymore. Everytime to get sounds I have to open yast and go into my audiocard to turn them back up. Anyone have any suggestions? Use Kmix instead of Kamix. -- Gruss | http://www.suse-etikette.de.vu/ | http://suse-linux-faq.koehntopp.de/ Thomas | http://learn.to/quote
I had the same problem and was pointed to this link by Delta99 - what a helpful person http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2004/05/thallma_91_sndsilence.html Good luck! nb: Kmix sets the volumes back then you can co back to kamix. On Tuesday 31 Aug 2004 15:19, Jake Sallee wrote:

Just start KMix up, open the mixer window, go to Settings and untick the item Restore sound settings. You can then use KAMix to set your volumes and they will retain your settings.
