I don't know what you call this po-up menu but it is the one that comes up when you insert a CD or DVD. The one that asks you what you want to do. This dopes not happen for me. I know the machine sees the disk because I can use ab app like VLC and open the disk and play it.
Could this be a hal problem? I think that is what caLL it. Any ideas on how to get it back/working for me?
And, once I do, how I can add apps to it like VLC or smplayer. But that can wait until it is working.
If you installed a hal-enabled package, just run hal service. If non-hal-enabled, it should work automatically.
Ilya, Not sure if the packafes are hal-enabled or not. But I went ahead and installed HAL service antway with zypper. Then I did this: /Easystreet:/ # service hald restart and got: service: no such service hald Then I did this: Easystreet:/ # /etc/init.d/haldaemon restart and got: Shutting down HAL daemon done Starting HAL daemon done Easystreet:/ # Any disk I put in the machine, CD or DVD will show up in my media directory but I still do not get the pop-up window asking what to do with the disk. Many time since last time I used KDE3, but I thnk that popup menu was conigurable in Kcontrol / System Settings / KDE Control Center. In KDE4 it is called "Device Actions". 2012/1/17 Bob S <911@pasco.org>:
