[opensuse-kde] RE: Problem with krandrtray
Dear All, I have a problem with the configuration of my screen on my DELL Latitude notebook. I had installed first OpenSUSE 12.1 32bit. Then I reinstalled OpenSUSE 12.164 bit, since I got 4 G of RAM. Now when I try to configure the display the "screen resize & rotate" starts , the icon is pulsing, but nothing happens. I see the process running, but no window opens to display. The process I see running is /usr/bin/krandrtray. If I start this process by hand I have the same situation, the process is apparently running, but I do not get a window to display the application. Any ideas ? Thank you very much for your help Reinhard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

KRandRTray installs an icon in the system tray. You get the window when you click on it. HTH, Chris -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I guess it's possible the systray entry is hidden. So if you don't see it, click on the little arrow to show hidden systray icons. Of course you can also simply configure the same things from systemsettings -> Monitor (Display?) -> Size and Orientation -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
Thank you. This works for me, but .... when I reboot the system the configuration turns up as before. I have 2 screens and would like to have them different. After the reboot I have a clone of the screen and the resolution turns back to the previous defined one. if I try it via Applications > System > Desktop Applet > Screen Resize & Rotate the application tries to start ( there is a pulsing icon ), when I do ps -ef | grep krand I see also the process running, but nothing happens. Thank you very much for any suggestion ... Reinhard

So the problem is that the configured resolutions are not restored on reboot, if I understand correctly? Should be easy for others to confirm. Hello me again, now one problem is resolved. I did forget to save the settings as default, now at reboot I have the desired configuration. The remaining problem is : Why does Screen Size & Rotate not work ? Where do I find this Icon you write about ? Thank you very much for your help Reinhard ----------------------------------------

With what video chip? It's not something I do via KDE settings, but maybe this: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=771521 -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." It should not be an issue of the video chip, I had before the 32 bit version of the 11.2 OpenSuse. With this one the "Screen Size & Rotate" started and got displayed. I think it is a display issue, some problem that may hinder the window to get displayed. ----------------------------------------

In attached image, look for tiny symbol of monitor and if You don't see it, click to tiny arrow (I have main panel on the top of screen, so don't be confused). I hope it helps.

Because the system tray icon is easier to access than a shortcut in the launcher, especially when you are in a hurry.

Do you remember to click on "save as default" after doing your setup? You just have to note that if you save your 2-screen setup as default, and then later boot without one of the monitors attached you will have problems. (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=277483) Of course that problem is fairly easily solved by (re)moving ~/.kde4/share/config/krandrrc from the commandline and restarting X - but still a nasty problem. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
