[opensuse-kde] Need a patch applied to kde 4x upstream bug 345174
I'm hurt (badly, but I will survive) by the following upstream bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=345174 It seems the patch has been added in the Application 15.04 .. I'm still using openSUSE 13.1 with Current Repository. Could one of our beloved packager have a look to check if the patch is also applied there. Thanks a lot. It's when a tool start bugging, you understand how addict you are :-) -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Board, fsfe fellowship GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Sorry for the late reply. No, the dolphin part of the patch was not applied in KDE:Current, only the kdelibs part. The kdebase4 package (which contains dolphin) has been updated to the (fixed) version 15.04.3 now though. I will work on updating the other packages to 15.04.3 as well during the weekend I suppose. Of course only those that are still KDE4 based in 15.04. Thanks for that, I've seeing yesterday that the double entry in no more here. I will wait a few day to be sure, you've got the time to fix all those related application. Yesterday, I've then tried to re-arrange the order of icons, and plasma-desktop and dolphin have to be killed. With another try, I've ask to hide all device except bluetooth and after a logout/login they are all back :-( But its more in category annoying for me. -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Board, fsfe fellowship GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I don't think there are other applications affected or related. Konqueror is part of kdebase4 too, and the file open/save dialog is part of kdelibs4 anyway. I do know that the "Homerun" launcher still has/causes problems in this regard, but that's not part of KDE itself and not contained in KDE:Current either. So better not use it.

Hm, this should work. I would suggest to remove both ~/.kde4/share/apps/kfileplaces/ (which is not used any more since that fix) and ~/.config/user-places.xbel. Maybe there's some debris in there (stemming from synchronizing them) that causes problems. Although I played with hiding and unhiding devices now a bit, and this still seems to be flaky. I had to do it a few times to "stick". So it seems not *all* bugs are fixed yet... Funky I try to rename all what I've found ... and then get this nice slap in my face from plasma-desktop (ok I was crazy ennough to do it still logged in) and I've a ./.local/share/user-places.xbel not in config. plasma-desktop here come from kdebase4-workspace-4.11.21-15.5.x86_64 -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Board, fsfe fellowship GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot

Plasma should not care about kfileplaces and user-places.xbel at all AFAIK. Unless you use the "Homerun" application launcher/widget. Again, if you do, remove it. It is broken in exactly this regard: it causes Plasma to crash when you modify the Places, it causes dolphin to freeze, and it causes the files to grow to Gigabytes... At least that's the only thing that I know of that might cause such things.
and I've a ./.local/share/user-places.xbel not in config.
Yes, it is ~/.local/share/user-places.xbel actually. Probably yours is quite big, no? Try to remove it, you'll get the default one then, and there shouldn't be a problem anymore. You find it ... that f**ing monster try to kill my KDE experience :-)

Yes, it is ~/.local/share/user-places.xbel actually. Probably yours is quite big, no? not that much 6221 octets. but the bookmarks.xml was 21 MB :-) plus all the copies ...
Try to remove it, you'll get the default one then, and there shouldn't be a problem anymore.
Thanks thanks thanks a lot for your work on patches and packaging and the good idea here to drive to the solution. Today you're my hero :-)
Kind Regards, Wolfgang
Should I send a sr delete against homerun in kde:extras if it's so dangerous to have it. -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Board, fsfe fellowship GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
