[opensuse-kde] Proper backtraces for Factory
Unless I'm mistaken, posting a useful backtrace for Factory, as per http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs:KDE is not possible at this time. Both, http://download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/oss/suse/ and http://download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/debug/suse/ do not have debug packages that are aligned with KDE4:Factory However, some sort of backtrace is provided with the current packages in Factory. Krash dialog does not say, "no debugging symbols found". Apparently this does not generate a useful backtrace. See, https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=465921 Why is there not a debug repository for KDE4:Factory such as, http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/openSUSE_11.1_KDE4_Fact... or something to that affect? -- Marc Benstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I can't answer your actual question, but I want to point out that this specific backtrace was not completely useless (although it wasn't completely helpful either). What makes backtraces useless are those lines with just "??", since then it just has to be guessed where the place is. The point however is that backtraces alone are not everything, and just a backtrace without debuginfo packages can be more useful than another backtrace with debuginfo if the first bugreport is e.g. reproducible or simple and the second one is not. Backtraces full of ??'s are almost always useless, but it's eventually up to the developer to decide if a backtrace is helpful or not. -- Lubos Lunak KDE developer -------------------------------------------------------------- SUSE LINUX, s.r.o. e-mail: l.lunak@suse.cz , l.lunak@kde.org Lihovarska 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 972 190 00 Prague 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

The debuginfo packages for any packages in the repos cannot be in oss or debug, since those are static. If you have the KDE4:Factory package, then it contains the debuginfo packages you need. For example for my 11.0 repo I see: kdebase4-debuginfo, kdelibs4-debuginfo and others. Did you try to search for the package names in YaST or have a look at the packages included in the repo? Even zypper se kdelibs4-debuginfo should show you that the package is available. Unfortunately, I must be missing something because I only have a few debuginfo packages in KDE:KDE4:Factory:Community. I am using the following repos: 1 | KDE4:Factory:Community | KDE4:Factory:Community | Yes | Yes | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.1... 2 | KDE4:Factory:Desktop | KDE4:Factory:Desktop | Yes | Yes | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSU... 3 | KDE4:Factory:Extra-Apps | KDE4:Factory:Extra-Apps | Yes | Yes | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Extra-Apps/ope... Here are my zypper searches of KDE4:Factory:*
zypper se -s -r KDE4:Factory:Desktop debuginfo No packages found. bensteinm@bensteinm08:~ zypper se -s -r KDE4:Factory:Community debuginfo S | Name | Type | Version | Arch | Repository --+--------------------------------------+---------+-------------+--------+----------------------- | kde4-screensaver-kcometen4-debuginfo | package | 1.0.3-1.17 | x86_64 | KDE4:Factory:Community | kde4-screensaver-kcometen4-debuginfo | package | 1.0.3-1.17 | i586 | KDE4:Factory:Community | kde4-style-bespin-debuginfo | package | r385-1.4 | x86_64 | KDE4:Factory:Community | kde4-style-bespin-debuginfo | package | r385-1.3 | i586 | KDE4:Factory:Community | kdesvn-debuginfo | package | 1.2.2-3.9 | x86_64 | KDE4:Factory:Community | kdesvn-debuginfo | package | 1.2.2-3.9 | i586 | KDE4:Factory:Community | kradioripper-debuginfo | package | 0.4.5b-1.11 | x86_64 | KDE4:Factory:Community | kradioripper-debuginfo | package | 0.4.5b-1.11 | i586 | KDE4:Factory:Community bensteinm@bensteinm08:~ zypper se -s -r KDE4:Factory:Extra-Apps debuginfo No packages found.
What am I missing? -- Marc Benstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
Looking through KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/ I noticed that only openSUSE_11.0 and Factory have debug packages. SLE_10, openSUSE_10.3, and openSUSE_11.1 do not have debug packages for KDE4. There is also a bug report regarding this: https://bugzilla.novell.com/466896 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
