[opensuse-kde] plasma 5 refuses to use icons in systemsettings and menus
I have an 25 month old TW installation. Somewhere in the period since, the menu and systemsettings icons disappeared. To try to solve this I finally decided to remove plasma entirely: zypper rm libKF5* Which got rid of virtually everything except a couple of kd*4* files, which I zypper removed separately. Then I added back: zypper -v in plasma5-session spectacle kcalc konqueror konsole I also deleted ~/.config/k* ~/.config/pla* ~/.config/plasma* ~/.config/session ~/.local/share/k* On starting a new session it looks like a full reset, with a normal panel, but the menu and systemsettings5 have no icons, just like before (except that "leave" in launcher style menu does have icons). Switching from breeze to oxygen doesn't help anything. Icons are also absent from the left end of the titlebar. # zypper se -si icon Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Is qt5ct installed? This "overrides" Plasma's settings (including the icon theme), which can result in the mentioned icons not being found. If that's the case, you could fix the problem by uninstalling qt5ct, or setting the icon theme to breeze or oxygen in its settings may help too (I never used/installed it myself). Also check that libKF5Style5, frameworkintegration-plugin and plasma5- integration-plugin are installed. Those are needed so that Qt5 actually uses KDE's settings in a KDE desktop. Although, they are *required* on a package level by other Plasma packages, plasma5-workspace in particular (without which you wouldn't have a Plasma desktop at all). Yes, and I had noticed that it was while trying to figure this out (though I didn't remember why it was incompatible with Plasma 5), and meant to remove it, but kept getting sidetracked before removing it. :-p

Removing qt5ct got the job done!

All 3 are. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg. Linux User #211409 ** a11y rocks!
