Hi, I installed Suse 9.0 and upgraded via 9.1 to 9.2. Under 9.0, I could login KDE as root without a problem. Since my upgrade to 9.1, this does not work anymore. If I try to login as root, the screen turns to black for 3 secs, then the login-box comes up again without any warning. The log writes for that time: ------ Jun 12 13:45:03 netcharly kdm: :0[14039]: pam_unix2: session started for user root, service xdm Jun 12 13:45:03 netcharly kdm: :0[14039]: pam_unix2: session finished for user root, service xdm ------ I checked KDM for AllowRootLogin. But this is set to true. Any thoughts, what this could be?? Thanks for your hints. Klaus

Check /root/.xsession-errors for any error messages Have you tried explicitly selecting a session from the dropdown list on the login screen? Perhaps the problem is that it's set to a bad default, some option that doesn't work?!

Yes, if it wasn't you'd be getting a login failure directly on the login screen
