I noticed the same thing. Suse 9.0 is missing MIME type associations (doh!) for Open Office if you ask me.  I supppose the machine is looking at the file and discovers that the actual encoding of the file is compression (zip)  and then you end up modifying and tinkering with the MIME type of "x-zip"....wrong.... The right way should be to set up the OO file-associations and their groups in KDE Control Center: KDE Components->File Associations Add new groups, proper type names (vnd.sun..etc) and associate with file- extensions ("Add.." button) pick you icon..and lastly pick which Open Office App to fire up.. Below are the MIME groups, binary to launch and the file extension..
