Good screensavers...? Specifically an aquarium/fish one.
I co-worker has a powerbook running OSX, and it has this fancy little aquarium screen saver that's extremely realistic. He claims that's one thing his machine can do better than Linux... I want to shut him up :) Running KDE 3.3.1 and SuSE 9.2.

With an entirely separate, proprietary display system, not based on X at all.

I'm sure requests to your favorite group of screensaver creators will make one, once they know there actually IS a demand for one... OF course, you *could* show Atlantis... to him... the word barrage is useless for true believers. Although I was able to convince an Apple developer that I could in fact have shadows on my DT... did you Google for: screensavers aquarium fish #1 there http://www.nexusmedia.net/aquarium_screensavers.htm or http://www.digifish.us/ and other top sites have beautiful fish screensavers ... all you need to do is to convert them for Linux - may be wine can handle it ? hans

I think the new fireworks module is pretty impressive. Not necessarily something that's realistic in the sense that it would make someone watching it think they were seeing a film of an actual fireworks show, but it's pretty good. I don't use it, though, because I'm fighting to stay in the top .6 to .7 percentile of SETI@home users. I just blank the screen. Well, the SETI thing and the fact that I want my screen to be saved--I still have a CRT.

Hey Steve,
I co-worker has a powerbook running OSX, and it has this fancy little aquarium screen saver that's extremely realistic. He claims that's one thing his machine can do better than Linux... I want to shut him up :)
... no way! :-) I have a Mac with OS X (which is what I'm writing this message with) and a Linux laptop (which is why I'm on this list). All good screen savers out there are either windows or OS X screen savers. Also, I'm not religious about an OS as long as it's _not_ windows. There are things OS X can do better than Linux and the other way around. But the Aquarium screen saver is one of the things that a Mac definitely can do better than Linux. :-) And, as someone else mentioned already, OS X is basically a BSD Unix derivate. -- cul8er Paul paul.foerster@gmx.net
Have a look at XScreenSaver. http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/ They have one called "Atlantis". I think it only has sharks, whales, and dolphins though, so I am not sure that counts. There are a lot of cool, non-aquarium screensavers included with it as well. There are instructions in their manual for using it with KDE or Gnome. I don't really understand the German text on the site, but the Demo is a Windows executable. The "Kaufen" page has only a Windows version and a Mac version of the SAD Southseas screensaver. No mention of Linux. What did I miss? Somebody mentioned the "Atlantis" screensaver? The version that came with SuSE has the saddest-looking whale swimming motion that I've seen (the sharks are a bit better...). Kevin

MOST of us do NOT read German......I used to as a kid, but not anymore. MOST of us have NOT read any reference to Linux on that site, and NO ONE has been able to download a free trail run of it for Linux. So, as far as most of us are concerned, it's a buy only. And, therefore, It doesn't matter what he bought......we CAN'T test it. *smirk* No, Fred. I'm not Dan. I'm Daniel. That's why I sign my mails with "Daniel" and not with "Dan" and not with "Fred". And my help is part of all the help you can get. As soon as you shit on my help, you shit on everyones help. And that's why you will not get any help at all. That's why it's called "community". Community means "we all" and not "just he, and he over there and she over there and not this guy". As soon as you have understood the sense of community, you will get any help you need. That's for sure. Best, Daniel Fred A. Miller schrieb am 26.12.2004 23:40:
