[opensuse-kde] ~/.kde obsolete with KDE5 ?
From previous KDE versions I still have ~/.kde4 and ~/.kde in my home
Hi there, KDE5 seems to not create a new ~/.kde5 folder. directoy, but they seem not to be used anymore. So, is ~/.kde* now obsolete with KDE5, is everything stored below ~/.config ? To my knowledge .local ist now used to be in compliance with standards -- Stefan Kunze SUSE Dispatch Engineer ________________________________________________________________ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, D-90409 Nürnberg

You are correct. KF5 based applications (including Plasma 5) use the XDG Base Directory specification, which means using ~/.config for configuration files. Note that existing kdelibs 4.x based applications will keep on using .kde4/. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: A29D259B

Ah, ok. But what is the purpose of ~/.local? I see some KDE apps store things in ~/.local. Thanks -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Application data is stored in ~/.local/share/, it's KDE4 equivalent is ~/.kde4/share/apps/. And caches are created in ~/.cache/ now, is/was ~/.kde4/cache-$HOSTNAME in KDE4, which normally is just a symlink to a folder in /var/tmp/.
