[opensuse-kde] Clarification re adding older KDE3 programs in OpenSuSE 11.3 KDE4
I'd like to add some KDE3 programs to a fresh install of OpenSuSE 11.3 KDE4 on one of my laptops. I don't want to install the KDE3 desktop or the old network manager, just some KDE3 based versions that still work better than the KDE4 versions. For example, I've installed the Clementine fork of Amarok 1.4 and it seems to work fine. Where do I find the older KDE3 version of KDEPIM that still seems preferable to me to the new version? -- Robert Smits Email bob@rsmits.ca -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Which has absolutely nothing to do with KDE 3 since it got ported to Qt4 and has no KDE dependencies anyways.
Where do I find the older KDE3 version of KDEPIM that still seems preferable to me to the new version?
Prolly in the KDE:KDE3 repo - which is maintained by someone who said he wont add any patches since it is too "confusing" ... IOW I wouldn't touch it with a long stick but YMMV. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I do maintain it. I never said that.

Some people are just rude.

I installed KDEPIM3 on a test laptop just fine. Thanks. -- Robert Smits Email bob@rsmits.ca -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Well, I'm grateful that someone is making available older kDE3 programs that work, in my case at least, much better than KDE4 programs available. The KDE4PIM may eventually work as well as the KDE3 versions but parts of it are still not functional. I can also confirm that kde3 still works with KFD kde4.6 on 11.3, I'm still stuck on kde3 kdevelop although the kde4 one is finally usable for me. I fixed the broken packages in KDE:KDE3 when I updated to 11.3 except kdegraphics3 which has elements that weren't available due to the demise of gtk1 this was fixed by somebody later, by removing those elements. I don't use kdepim and as kdevelop4 is finally usable for me I might drop kde3 altogether with 11.4. There's a kde4 ark bug that is supposed to be fixed in kde4 where ark cannot update an existing compressed file, so I might still keep the elements needed for kde3 ark. It is kuickshow. It was removed by Lubos. Actually it does not depend on gtk1 but does depend on imlib library which is also outdated. Anybody can get the kdegraphics3 with kuickshow enabled from my home repository. If there is need I can restore kuickshow in the main KDE3 repository (does anybody actually use it?).
