Hi, i just tried to upgrade a kde 3.3.0 (suse 9.2-IA64) to 3.4.2 by using the supplementary yast source... but the only installable package found was kde3-i18n-de-3.4.2-3? could it possibly be the case that the supplementary source is only for 32bit systems? bye, MH -- gpg key fingerprint: 5F64 4C92 9B77 DE37 D184 C5F9 B013 44E7 27BD 763C

I don't see any packages at all in the supplementary directory for Itanium. My guess is that you used x86_64, but that is for AMD64 and EM64T, not for Itanium. Itanium is the Intel flop that isn't compatible with anything in the world. x86_64 is the AMD invention that Intel later copied that is fully backwards compatible with the "normal" 32 bit machines. The packages you see are the ones tagged "noarch".
could it possibly be the case that the supplementary source is only for 32bit systems?
No, there are quite a few for x86_64, but it appears that the Itanium tree doesn't get the builds
