[opensuse-kde] Task Manager (Kicker) bar and grouping
Hello - On both openSuSE42.2 and openSuSE42.3 x64 systems I am running the KDE desktop and encounter an annoying problem with task manager bar (some call it the kicker bar I think). I have the manager bar configured to group windows belonging to the same application to be shown as a single icon. For example, if I am running Firefox and have multiple windows/Firefox processes running, these are all grouped under a single icon in the task bar for Firefox. Clicking on that icon brings up a pop-up window showing all the individual Firefox windows allowing me to select one to open up. The problem is that the popup is not being position on the screen correctly and some of the individual window icons in the list remain hidden/inaccessible behind the task manager bar. I cannot find a setting in any of the configuration menus that allow me to correct and fix this annoyance and the only workaround is to ungroup the icons so that they are all shown individually on the task manager bar. But with lots of open windows that becomes a PITA also. Things I have tried include resizing the task manager bar and the icons but no joy. Is there any way to fix this so that it works as one would expect, i.e. position the popup window so that all the icons for all the windows for a particular application are shown? P.S. I might have asked this before, but cannot find the thread if so, or what the answer was...
Hi Mark. I do not know if it is related. I had problems with the logout popup, badly sized and positioned. It was due to having "scaled" the screen size to more then 100 % - a new feature that actually does not work well yet if you have dual screen monitor setting. You might check it in monitor and screen settings - screen tag - advanced button - all in the lower part you find a button scale the screen. Chances are good that it will not help you...but I thought it was worth a try. Thanks Stakanov for your thoughts... As far as I can tell I do not have any screen scaling going on. Starting with the KDE Application Menu, I looked at the Settings > Configure Desktop > Hardware > Display and Monitor > Displays > Scale Display dialog and the scale slider is set at 0. I am not sure if this is the same setting that you wanted me to take a look at as I do not know where else to look for the "monitor and screen settings" that you referred to. Marc.. Marc.. Yes this is the setting. I do not know if you have a dual monitor setup. In case, try to set no primary monitor or if it is the case, define one.
If you provide me with the graphics card type (nvidia / amd or Intel) and the version of opensuse and the exact graphics settings (dpi and the plasma theme if it is not breeze) I will try to reproduce it here. If I can reproduce it, you might file a bug report and I will confirm in that case. Just let me know. Thanks again Stakanov for taking the time to help me! ;-) Since I am on my laptop at the moment, and this problem is occurring on it, I will use it as a reference to answer your questions. So to your first question, no it is not set up for dual monitors. Just a simple laptop screen. It is using the nVidia GeForce GTX 1070 card and the display resolution is set to 1920 x 1080. The Look and Feel and the Desktop themes are set to Breeze Dark, the Cursor theme is set to simply Breeze. I am running openSUSE Leap version 42.2 I did a bit more investigating on my own, and don't laugh to loudly, I know I am a bad user and abuse things a lot, but this is just how I organize myself, projects I am working on, and multitask. I discovered that this problem occurs when, for example, I open 15 or more Firefox windows! Fewer windows then the popup list does display everything correctly. So call me a power user abuser, LOL, but it is still annoying that this feature has this limitation and probably should be addressed/fixed or at least a warning be given... HTHs Marc...
