Hello everyone, I hope some of you can help me. Yesterday I updated from KDE 3.3.0 to 3.3.2 on SUSE Linux 9.2 but since then, KDE doesn't play system sounds. My first guess was, that something could be wrong with the pathes to the sound files, but they're on the right place. When I type in (for example) 'artsplay /opt/kde3/share/sounds/KDE_Startup_3.ogg' everything works fine, so what could it be? If you need additional information, please ask. Thanks, Chris Mager.

sorry I didn't see that there's another threat with the same topic. I've changed the configuration in knotifyrc (also via kontroll center), that didn't work after restarting kde. So I tried rebuilding arts-1.3.2-3.src.rpm from http://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.2/source/ by using this command: rpmbuild --rebuild --target=i586 arts-1.3.2-3.src.rpm this returns following error message: error: Unknown option ? in verify_permissions(:-:) Does anyone have an idea, how to solve this problem? thx, chris mager. That's not a fatal error. Got this, too. What else is failing? Daniel Am Dienstag, 14. Dezember 2004 21:48 schrieb Christian Mager:

Ok, system sounds are working now. There were some broken symlinks in /opt/gnome/lib which caused the error. Thanks for helping me! Chris Mager. Am Dienstag, 14. Dezember 2004 21:51 schrieb Daniel Eckl:

thx, chris mager. ============
Chris, Your problem here is that you added equal (=) signs to the command. You only want: rpmbuild --rebuild --target i586 arts-1.3.2-3.src.rpm I'm thinking you have probably only fixed the sounds for the moment and will still have to recompile the src.rpm to your system. You mentioned you changed something with gnome, but my gnome side sounds worked great, it was just KDE that failed. My guess is that the next time you restart KDE or reboot the machine, your sounds will quit again. regards, Lee -- --- KMail v1.7.2 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.2 --- Registered Linux User #225206 "Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game!"
