[opensuse-kde] Cannot manually sort icons on folder plasmoid in 5.6
Luca, Is there anything in the works that will allow users to place icons on the folder plasmoid the way the user want? Maybe bring back snap to grid? Cheers! I don't think anything like that is planned at the moment. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team GPG key ID: A29D259B

Too bad. This is a real setback for 5.6. I would say that openSUSE 13.2 KDE4 has it right. The user has full control - just as it should be. I'll switch to the "folder view with icons activity" on the desktop as a workaround. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

right click on the panel -> icons -> sort -> choose your poison for what you want to achieve use "unsorted" If not working -> bug kde.org -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member, fsfe fellowship GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

That only means they won't be sorted. But you still cannot sort them manually... (TBH, I have to say that I don't really see a point in this option the way it is currently)
If not working -> bug kde.org There is a bug report already: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=349721
In comment#5 the upstream developer states that when it "acts as a widget on top of the desktop surface", it: "Doesn't allow free icon positioning (pretty sure Plasma 4 didn't either) since it's silly and also because it allows certain speed optimizations not possible with free icon positioning (widgets often show folders with more files than the desktop would)." Plasma 4 actually did allow free positioning, but anyway. This is on purpose (and not just since Plasma 5.6), and I'm not aware of any plans to change that either. On purpose??? KDE4 had become nice and stable in openSUSE 13.2, while the features in Plasma 5 had turned into a regression. If I new how to program I would have introduced a patch. Most unfortunate.
