[opensuse-kde] Build service repository restructuring, part II
Hi, Following the discussions in the last irc meeting, I`ve added a new proposal that splits repositories by dependencies (needs newer Qt? needs newer KDE?) and by trust level (experimental package, community maintained, maintained). Please have a look at: http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/Meetings/Buildservice_Projects#Plan_D.29_Split_by... Any comments, feedback, improvemnets, suggestions appreciated. I've just started poking around again in the KDE4 repos, and I can see a variety of different ones: KDE4, KDE4:, DESKTOP, PLATFORM, UNSTABLE etc. Is this a work-in-progress, or was a decision made on how to organize the repos per your message below? Just wondering if there's been a post or announcement somewhere on how the repo assignments; I assume /KDE4 seems to be the "stable" KDE 4.0.0 release, I just want to make sure I'm not missing out on good stuff in the other repos, even if cutting edge means the occasional breakage... ;) In the spirit of adventure, I already took it upon myself to update to packages in the various repos just to see what would happen, and wound up breaking my desktop (fixed by reverting packages back to standard KDE4 though), so I'm just looking for a little direction. We are trying different layouts atm and will decide on one (likely not before Dirk's return next week), so duplication is not planned to stay forever. :-) Bye, Steve --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

We currently have two layouts at the moment: a) one that is modular split into platform and desktop: KDE:KDE4:PLATFPORM KDE:KDE4:DESKTOP KDE:KDE4:DESKTOP:APPS KDE:KDE4:DESKTOP:Community where the last 3 build against KDE:KDE4:PLATFORM, which contains the stable version of Qt 4.x and platform KDE 4.x libs KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:PLATFPORM KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:DESKTOP KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:DESKTOP:APPS KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:DESKTOP:Community b) one where that modular split between platform and desktop has been removed: KDE:KDE4 KDE:KDE4:STABLE:APPS KDE:KDE4:STABLE:Community KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:APPS KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:Community both approaches have problems at the moment, so I'm undecided. I think with a slightly better naming scheme b) would be preferred at the moment. comments, feedback appreciated. I hope that we can decide this tonight in the irc meeting :) Greetings, Dirk -- RPMLINT information under http://en.opensuse.org/Packaging/RpmLint --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:PLATFPORM KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:DESKTOP KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:DESKTOP:APPS KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:DESKTOP:Community

KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:APPS KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:Community

From the end user perspective I think b) is preferable, I'll leave the packaging perspective for others to worry about. It just needs some descriptive word for the platform+desktop repo. Maybe "BASE" or "BASIS" or something, like: KDE:KDE4:STABLE:BASIS KDE:KDE4:STABLE:APPS KDE:KDE4:STABLE:Community KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:BASIS KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:APPS KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:Community --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Another thing.. maybe it would be better to leave the "STABLE" part out like in a), it might confuse people since these packages will after all be unsupported and at best semi-official. KDE:KDE4:BASIS KDE:KDE4:APPS KDE:KDE4:Community KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:BASIS KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:APPS KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:Community --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Exactly.
KDE:KDE4:BASIS KDE:KDE4:APPS KDE:KDE4:Community
KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:BASIS KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:APPS KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:Community
This is fine with me, except that BASIS is not a descriptive word - it would be the whole DESKTOP (aka everything that is released). so i tend to sed s,BASIS,DESKTOP, in above suggestion and settle on that.
