[opensuse-kde] Howto edit the default k-startmenu kde 3.5.9
Hi, I have to edit the menu of the k-button for all users on a machine but I can't find the location where to do that. Can someone help me? <right> click on the "k-button" and select "edit menu", but this will *only* edit the menu for the current user. I do not know a way to edit all users menu as they exist in the *users* home directorys and are all possibly different. Making a default and copying it to all users would probably be the best approach, but I do not know which file is the menu, but it is probably under ~/.kde/ -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

By "edit" what do you what to do exactly? If you want to add/remove entries try looking at /opt/kde3/share/applications and /opt/kde3/share/applnk Of course, if you delete a .desktop file, this may or may not play havoc on the RPM that installed it. When you add/remove .desktop files, you may need to do a "kbuildsycoca " in order to see the results right away. From my experience, KDE will eventually see the changes and do the update itself. Hi, first of all, thanks for your help (also Patrick). I want to add a new categorie at top-level for my own programs. Its a new folder and it should contain subfolders and program-entries. To overwrite the user-settings is not an option for me. I need to know what I have to do, if I want a folder called "Software" with a subfolder called "Math" and applinks in it. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

You must create/install *.desktop-files in an appropriate location - for inspiration look at some of the desktop-files in /opt/kde3/share/applications/kde/ There are some freedesktop.org standards for this stuff.
