Creating firewalls and scanning isn't the easiest thing to do, it might be faster for you to just buy a Netgear WAP/Firewall and accomplish the same thing. But if you still wanted to do it, you should look at CLAM AV, it is mostly for email and proactive scanning. But I don't think it can scan packets coming in through the firewall.

Hi Gerald, You can set up a firewall quite easily to only let certain things through. You can download a nice little application called Guarddog which is a graphical interface for setting up iptables rules. It includes a number of well known ports (http, ftp, MSN messenger, etc), as well as allowing for user-defined ports as well. Get it at http://www.simonzone.com/software/guarddog/. There is an online manual. I don't know about setting up antivirus on the laptop... -- Raoul Snyman Saturn Laboratories Cell: 082 550 3754 E-mail: raoul.snyman@saturnlaboratories.co.za Web: http://www.saturnlaboratories.co.za/ Blog: http://blog.saturnlaboratories.co.za/ Registered Linux User #333298 (http://counter.li.org)
