[opensuse-kde] some problems with KDE 4.1.96
Hi all, since i've made an update from KDE 4.1.3 to KDE 4.1.96 (KDE 4.2 RC1) "release 78.1" onto openSUSe 11.1 i have some problems with KDE. First and very annoying: an "automagically" starting kmail every time i log into KDE. I have no idea where this autostart is coming from. In the sessionmanagement KDE is set to start with a clean, empty session and there are no scripts in the autostart-directories below /home and /root. Second and also very bad: KDE is losing the connection to my keyboard and mouse from time to time. openSUSE is running at a notebook, and it makes no difference whether i use the integrated keyboard or an external USB- Keyboard, same to internal ttouchpad and ext. USB-mouse. Very strange: if this problem appears, i can move the windows at the desktop, but i cannot use any button or menu. So i cannot shutdown the computer, because it ignores me completely, so i have to switch it off the hard way. Its not very often, maybe one or two times a week. Third: If i want to add a widget to my taskbar (or whatever new name the old kicker has), it is gone the next time i log in. If i want to install it again, in the widgetlist it is listed as already installed, but it is not to see anywhere. Can anybody give me some hints? Thank you... regards, Jens -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Beagle not, but nepomuk. What is nepomuk for?
2) KMail when is busy downloading messages makes my keyboard unresponsive, but that is for a few moments.
No that isnt the case here. Now i've opened the sshd-port in SuSEFirewall and at another computer a ssh-terminal is running tail -f /var/log/messages all the time. Maybe i'll see then something and can try whether the mechine is dead or is reachable by net when the desktop is freesing. regards, Jens -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

The semantic desktop. Tagging, indexing, etc. all your data. Actually, I guess Strigi is mainly for indexing and Nepomuk is mainly a API in to the database, but I could be wrong on the specifics. -- Boyd Stephen Smith Jr. ,= ,-_-. =. bss@iguanasuicide.net ((_/)o o(\_)) ICQ: 514984 YM/AIM: DaTwinkDaddy `-'(. .)`-' http://iguanasuicide.net/ \_/

Done. Removed Strigi with zypper and disabled nepomuk in systemsettings. Just before i've done this, this partly freeze was happen again, but this time i could login from another comp via ssh and i saw that X was eating 100% CPU. Very strange: frome the remote konsole i tried to switch to init 3, i got no error-message, but nothing seems to change at the laptop. So i've killed X, but the screen at my laptop was showing the desktop anyway! This picture at my laptop-screen was there until i made a reboot from remote and the laptop was resetting itself. So i think something was writing something into the graphicsmemory and after this linux and my graphicscard didnt talk to each other anymore ;) And before you ask me: This or anything like this never happens at this laptop before i installed KDE 4.1.96! regards, Jens -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Yes. It is left after session, but when you begin new session it is zeroed and filled with errors again.

Local folders in KMail program. I have no such name too. Check your kmailrc: grep Local ~/.kde4/share/config/kmailrc it could be some folder defined with that name and, as it doesn't exist, Kmail reports error. In .kde/share/config/kmailrc I have a line: FavoriteFolderNames=Local Inbox but feature favorite folders is disabled here.

I just got unresponsive GUI, with (forbidden direction + earth like) cursor. It happened in Konqueror (KDE3). I am having the same problem here, which was not present with KDE 4.1. There are also a few other things I found nicer with KDE 4.1. Could you tell me if I should report these upstream or at bnc: - When changing the height of the panel, the height was displayed. I found this very convenient. -The changing of the height of the panel was much smoother. With KDE 4.2 I have to guess the actually visible height as it does not resize really on the fly. This means the menu one gets when clicking on the cashew on the panel does not really follow the mouse as it was doing with 4.1. There's not even an 11.2 alpha yet. There's not even a roadmap - however most insiders expect 11.2 to have KDE 4.3.x. So filing reports about minor issues in 4.2 RC1 to openSUSE bugtracker at this point seems a bit aggressive to me. Report them upstream for now.
