Re: [suse-kde] Font problems with KDE 3.1.4 (anti-aliasing)
I removed all the temporary files of kde. I moved /etc/X11/qtrc.rpmnew to /etc/X11/qtrc I even removed .kde in my home directory so I got a new set of defaults. Called SuSEconfig after installing the rpms.
Did you try to check your /etc/X11/qtrc file? I've seen qt 3.2.1 installed a new qtrc file in my system. Now, I'm not seeing your problem, but I had some strange behaviours with with Kiten's Japanese characters, so I rechecked my font config with qtconfig. Now, at least www.spiegel.de is anti-aliased. Ciao, Roberto!
Hello! I think I have figured it out what the problems were: 1. Ugly fonts in Konqueror: Qt 3.1 couldn´t use the true type fonts from Microsoft and replaced them with other fonts if they were requested by a web site. http://www.spiegel.de wants to have Verdana or Arial. Qt 3.2 can use the true type fonts, but they are not anti-aliased. So suddenly the site looks ugly, but it's not a bug, it's a feature. ;-) Solution: move away the folder /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype (and call SuSEconfig, I think) 2. Small font in KMail (and other programs): There is a small bug in the font selection of KDE 3.1, at least it's in KDE 3.1.3 (and still in KDE 3.1.4): If you select "Courier" you relly get "Adobe Courier" in the end. The same goes for "Utopia" ("Adobe Utopia"). The former is anti-aliased while the latter is not, but I never noticed. I don't know if these are fonts that belong to the default install, could somebody have a look? Now for the new bug: "Adobe Courier" is only displayed in the smallest available size, at least for me. You can see it in the font selection already. This is a bug of Qt 3.2.1 (which is the only thing I upgraded for a test). Solution: Select "Courier 10 Pitch" instead of "Courier". If you really want "Adobe Courier" wait for bug fix in Qt. I'm not sure if the error really applies specifically to "Adobe Courier" or just to the first font in the font list. By the way: In KMail I couldn't select a font for message display smaller than 12 points. Is this a bug or a feature? Greetings Uwe Siems
