Re: [suse-kde] Synchronizing palm-pilot with kmail
For your information: I posted a similar question on the kdepim-users lists and got the following answer from Adriaan de Groot. Cheers Jan From kdepim-users:
I read some postings on this mailing list, speeking about broken interfaces concerning email.
_Sending_ email from a Palm via KMail is broken in KDE 3.5.x, due to a change in KMail's interface.
What is the actual status? Is it possible to sync emails from a palm (I am using a M505) with kmail? I have kpilot version 4.5.4 installed with pilot-link 0.11.8. It seems to me, that it is only possible to send emails.
In the current KPilot - the one developed outside of KDE SVN, at www.kpilot.org - sending works again (probably - I just fixed the use of the interface, haven't tested); there is no retrieval of mail. No one has wanted mail retrieval badly enough the past three years to do something about it. I don't think it's that _hard_, you can either walk a maildir folder, parse an mbox (eww) or use DCOP to ask KMail for the contents of a folder (I think - I haven't seen what's actually *in* FolderIface). For each message, write it to the database on the Palm (taking into account that the mail DB only can handle an 8k message). Straightforward, but it needs someone to pick it up. Am Mittwoch, 1. Hello!
I have installed SuSE 10.0 (the download version) and now am trying to synchronize my palm-pilot (it is an M505) with kontact using kpilot.
After first tests it seems to work well for the addresses, calendar and activities. But: It only uploads new mails to the outbox in kmail and new memos to knotes. It does not downloads existing notes nor existing mails. Even in the configuration menue the tab for configuring recieving mail is missing! It is only possible to configure sending mails (with kmail - no other option, but I do not miss them, I do not want to use SMTP there, I wish to send my mails via kmail).
Following some hints in mailing-lists I have already checked, that it's kpilot version 4.5.4 running, saying it uses pilot-link 0.11.8, and this version of pilot-link is installed. KDE is 3.4.2 level "b" and kmail 1.8.2.
Any ideas what might go wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Jan
